This fight has to happen now. It would be for the Undisputed championship at 115lbs.

So who do you have winning and how?

Montiel in a fight of the year type fight. I think he has the power to hurt Vic and he will stick that left hook to the body over and over again stopping Vic in the later rounds.

No, just the WBO. Darchinyan should jump to number 1 in the Ring rankings after this weekend, Montiel is at #2.... so if they fought, it would be for the vacant Ring belt.

That really means nothing muchacho. Its to my understanding that Montiel did infact want Mijares after both fought and won on the same card...Negotiations fell through due to Mijares....again I'm not 100% on that

Montiel did say he wanted Mijares. Now with Vic winning I am sure he would fight him.

There were three things that came out of tonight's fight that should be considered when analysing this potential match-up.

    1) Is that Mijares has poor power for a top fighter and clearly could not damage Darchinyan with much of anything (some of the punches he landed late could have had some affect though...).

    2) Vic Darchinyan was obviously slowing down a decent amount as the fight progressed. Personally I though it looked at times like if Mijares could just step it up a gear he would stand a good chance of knocking Darchinyan out. Although I have a very strong suspission that at times this is exactly what Darchinyan wanted Mijares to think (like in the last round shortly before the knockout). Never the less he was obviously pacing himself a lot in the late round and he is quite old for the low divisions.

    3) Montiel would definitely be much more aware of Darchinyan's capabilities then Mijares was tonight. Mijares came in there thinking that he was going to give darchinyan a boxing lesson. He wasn't prepared for Darchinyan to be faster then him. He wasn't prepared for Darchinyan to be hard to hit. He didn't realise that his power wasn't going to affect Darchinyan. And he wasn't prepared for Vic to fight a smart fight. He had no back up plan. He never really even came to terms with the fact that he was in danger of losing the fight (or at least he didn't until maybe the 8th round or something). After this win Montiel would certainly have a better appreciation of Darchinyan then Mijares (and most other people) had for him.

So basically Darchinyan's performance was probably the performance of the year tonight but people shouldn't get too carried away when considering if Darchinyan=Superman.

I think that a victory over montiel would be harder for Darchinyan then the one he got tonight for many of these reasons. Montiel has better power then Mijares and he would certainly not underestimate Darchinyan like Mijares did. He would probably not try to play motcho games either. Although, most people thought that Darchinyan palyed right into the strengths of Mijares and he just beat him from pillar to post for 8 of 9 rounds.

Personally, I was soo impressed by Darchinyan tonight that I would pick him in a very exciting fight. Possibly winning in a similar fashion.

hmmm you maybe slightly onto something here but I disagree with your statement that "Darchinyan's awkwardness gives a boxer like Mijares big problems" not the case at all in my opion. Often when an unorthadoxed guy meats a v. skilled boxer like Mijares he gets made to look silly. I think of the Prince versus Barrera as a perfect example of what I thought was going to happen tonight. Mijares just got out gunned and beat up by the much better fighter nothing stylistic about that.

The rest of this I agree with though. But I have to think if Vic could look that good against Mijares he should be favoured in a fight with Montiel, especially if power is going to be a big factor, as certainly Vic has the edge here.
