People say he's good at 118 pounds or too small. Not true. He has decent power, not as great. But still hurts people. He can handle punches good. I think people are beating him not becaue he is small. It's because he's one dimensional. He reminds me of a slow mans Pacquaio at 130. Vic shows how good a stright left can be for southpaws. Vic beat a lot of great fighters with just that punch. but even in a lower weight class. You can find spots where boxers outbox him. Then he lands that stright left which chages things.

I do see he has a lousy right hook. he needs to work on it. Every now and then he throws a good one. But thats like once out of every 5 rounds or so. I saw more right hooks but not one with conviction. If he adds a right hook. I think it would do wonders. i see him beating Mares. not sure about Adbeko. But he would at least have a beter chance with him.

Darchinyan is a good fighter... and interesting character. One of my favorite fighters of the last 5 years... just has no business at 118. He should stay at 115lbs.... he was dominant at 112.

He's a good fighter I agree. Im just saying if he adds a strong right hook, he would be able to beat most guys at 118 minus probably Adbeko. Adbeko's is just too strong and fast and big. Throws a lot of combination. At one 118 he losses his biggest asset which is his power. But he still has decent pop. He just can't rely on his stright left all the time. If added a solid right hook his left would not be so delagraph.

I LOVE VIC!!! But he is one dimensional most times. He loves the one punch knockout and the business of hurting people with his power punches so he tends not to box. At these higher weight divisions, this tactic doesn't seem to be working. His opponents are able to take his punch and have their own boxing abilities to frustrate Vic. Against Agbeko he was loading up and missing with Agbeko picking him off all night with a straight right. Against Mares, he was doing well with his countering power shots all night but Mares walked through most of them and had a high enough work rate to convince the judges..

Vic has a great amateur record and has shown what an effective boxer he can be. Does anyone remember the Mijares fight?! That was a systematic break down using a lot of boxing mixed in with some hurt!! Vic just needs to box and the knockout will come eventually. This will be helped by a lot more jabs and the odd right hook and body shot.

His knockdown of Mares early probably played against him. He probably thought he would do over and over again at will. It might be too late to change his psychology at this point of his life but maybe someone can just tweak it a little or maybe it can come from within! He is macho and cocky and confident (with good reason) but getting a points win should be just as good as his beloved one punch knockouts.

Good luck to him, i hope and im sure he will, come back strong again! GO VIC!!!

  6. I liked Vic since I saw him come from behind to KO Irene Pacheco. If you are familiar with his previous fights... seeing him actually box and use footwork and lateral movement to set up his punches against Mares should make you think twice about calling him one dimensional.

Yeah I agree he's probably a bit small for 118 but he's also getting older and its getting harder for him to make weight.

He's had a good career up to this point, I wouldn't mind seeing him retire before someone really blasts him out in embarrassing fashion...
