Sorry ROCK, got a bit excited with the news, its going to be in August. The warm up fight is going to be in May.
Dont see why a lot of people are thinking vic cant beat this guy,his last few fights he has demolished the opposition, and they havent exactly been pushovers.
Vic not bringing anything new to this contest......... I really need convincing that he can turn the tables. Donaire will start favourite i wld imagine.
great news.Donaire has looked impressive in his last 2 but Vic has fought the far better fighters since they fought.hopefully a patient Vic finishes this in the 9th,10th or 11th round.bring ze power.
This is a must win fight for Vic to finally silence his critics.........and there seems to be many. He still drops that right hand when he loads up his left & Donaire will have his eyes set for that left hook again. I hope Vic can pull this one out as its a big big fight for him.
Vic would have to be stupid to go into a rematch with Donaire and use the same tactics that saw him get sparked cold. He's not stupid, so I suspect we'll see him fighting very craftily, but still pressing the action. I like Vic by late round KO/TKO in this one. He wouldn't be so keen for a rematch if he didn't think he had the tactics to beat Donaire.
From the general forum...... SHAW SAYS DARCHINYAN-DONAIRE REMATCH SET FOR AUGUST By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 23 Mar 2010 Well known promoter Gary Shaw says the eagerly anticipated rematch between WBC/WBA super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan and WBA Interim champion Nonito The Filipino Flash Donaire has been set for August. Shaw told us last week that he and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who handles Donaire had worked out an agreement for the rematch and it was sent to the Darchinyan camp headed by his manager Elias Nassar and that he was waiting for a go ahead from the Darchinyan camp. Shaw confirmed that most everything else between myself and Top Rank is done while Arum told us he believes the fight will happen on August 7 at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles. Arum told us Donaire is going to fight a tune-up fight on May 15 and then hes going to fight Darchinyan in Los Angeles at the Home Depot Center on August 7. However, he still didnt know who Donaire will fight in the tune-up bout. When we checked with Shaw Tuesday, Manila Time, he told us they want the fight and that he was in discussions with "Showtime" regarding the financial aspects of the pay-per-view and television coverage. When asked whether everything was alright, Shaw replied everything is perfect and that he was finalizing the date. Donaire earlier laughed off claims by the Armenian-born Australian Darchinyan that he (Donaire) was scared to face him in a rematch. Darchinyan made the claim after scoring a twelve round unanimous decision over gallant but inexperienced Mexican Rodrigo Guerrero who was fighting outside his country for the very first time. Guerrero who had a record of 13-1-1 going into the fight was coming off a KO win over unheralded Rey Lopez last December 18. Prior to that he won a unanimous eight round decision over Luis Maldonado, the same fighter who was pulverized by Donaire and lost by an 8th round TKO in an IBF/IBO flyweight title bout in December 2007. The 34 year old Australian who suffered a one-punch knockout that sent him reeling across the ring in a daze in the 5th round in a title fight on July 7, 2007 in which Darchinyan lost both his IBF and IBO flyweight titles in the Knockout of the Year claimed in a post fight interview with Steve Farhood of Showtime that he thinks Donaire was scared to give him a rematch.
Vic definantly has the ability to win this. He just needs to be in the right headspace. If he comes out like he did for mijares, it will be an easy night. Go Vic. Use ze jabbing and ze boxing then make him feel the power. Raging bull by ko late rounds. Where can I get tickets for the Sydney fight
because he smacked his brother silly, i think vic was a bit too blase' about nonito and thought he'd turn up throw a few punches and be the winner. he is clearly not as careless now as what he once was.
