Vicente Mosquera vs. Walter Castillo RBR

I like Mosquera to chop this kid down and knock him out.

 

Round 2

Heavy haul-over blows by Mosquera, walking the taller and younger man back. Castillo tries to slide out into jabbing range and then line up a right hand to the chest. Mosquera hooks away to the lower body (chest level for himself) and up at the face and has Castillo on the run. Long measuring jab by Mosquera, too far out but just range finding. Castillo shifts his weight from one foot to another on the outside, getting comfortable. Long jab to the body by Castillo. A long jab to the head is blocked by a quick squeeze of Mosquera's gloves.

Round 3

Stiff left jabs rolled out by Castillo. Mosquera blocks until he's done, then ropes out a left hook to the body. Castillo lobs a 1-2, into the guard. Clinch, and Castillo gets Mosquera in a headlock from behind somehow before the ref tells him to let the shorter man go. Big bashing right hands over the top by Mosquera, backing Castillo up to the ropes. Castillo extends his feeler jab out slowly several times, and Mosquera checks it on the bottom of his right glove with short little downward taps. Mosquera marches forward and ducks a long 1-2. Body shot by Mosquera. Castillo backs up to the ropes and then leans into Mosquera, tying up. Castillo jabs high, gets blocked.

Round 4

Mosquera bangs his way in with those hard left rips to the body, head down and feet off the floor. Castillo is backing up, arms at his sides, mouth open, trying to jab Mosquera away. Hard knocks to the midsection by Mosquera. Castillo has his long arms folded up in front of his face, neglecting to defend his body in his haste backing away. Mosquera jabs in on him, and then claps down with an overhand right behind the head.

Round 5

Big body shots by Mosquera. Castillo keeps his distance using whatever he has available: bouncing off the ropes, throwing a few elbows in Mosquera's face, circling around the ref to use him as a human obstacle. Mosquera just keeps coming, and throwing hooks to the ribs. Castillo tries to time him with a straight right hand. Mosquera drops his arms down to his sides and slips off to one side, letting the right graze him. Mosquera is clowning Castillo now. Mosquera is applying constant pressure. Castillo tries to jab off the back foot but is shouldered back into the ropes by the smaller man. More overhand shots from the hip by Mosquera, all while effortlessly dodging Castillo's counters with his no-arms defense - all writing and swerving.

Round 6

Mosquera has Castillo hurt, backing up in a shell! Mosquera keeps hammering away. BLATANT LOW BLOW by Castillo! A premeditated and fully-loaded left hook under the testes. He has a point deducted. Rightfully. He doesn't complain about it, just accepts the reprimand sheepishly. Time in. Castillo tries some jabs and straight right crosses - but Mosquera is still using his awkward thermometer-needle defense and getting inside and underneath the straight shots with those meaty hooks to the body.

Round 7

High jumping jab by Mosquera, then a crouch and a spring into a body hook. Castillo catches him, waits until he backs out, and starts to push out his long left jab. Mosquera works his way in again, sneaking down at Castillo's waist. Clinch. The pattern repeats. Castillo jabs, and Mosquera blocks. Now some wild high chops by Mosquera, pushing Castillo into a corner but not landing. 1-2 to the guard by Castillo. Quick jab by Castillo, through the gloves - but quicker reflexive head movement by Mosquera, jerking straight back and avoiding the blow. Mosquera ducks a jab, then throws some heavy wild hooks. Castillo is backed up a few feet, then starts trying to line up his jab again.

70-62 Mosquera

 

Round 8

Castillo lands a double jab to the body, and now a triple left hook. Clinch. Castillo walks Mosquera back several feet. They wrestle some more, and Castillo leans down into Mosquera with his full mass. Jabs into the guard by Castillo, and then some dip-down hooks to the body. Mosquera tries jabbing up at him, and Castillo blocks while waiting his own turn. Castillo circles left and pops his left jab. Mosquera casts out a net and pulls him into a grab. Castillo gets free and keeps jabbing while circling left. Castillo has finally found his rhythm to outbox the maniacal Mosquera. 1-2 by Castillo, just missing as Mosquera ducks off to his right. Clinch. Both are warned for butts. Mosquera needs tape on his left glove. The crowd boos the delay. Time in. Castillo lands more body hooks. Both warned for butts again. Castillo skips off to his left, jabbing.

Walter got his groove back. He finally realized that as the longer, younger, and more technical of the two, maybe he should use some movement and his jab and try to outbox Mosquera. :nut What a revelation!
