vicente Saldivar is seldom discussed even when the conversation shifts to best Featherweights or best Mexican Boxers.

He still holds the record for the most wins in unified FW title bouts (8) and most unified FW defenses (7). He is one of the great South Paws, feather weights and Mexican warriors yet he is very seldom talked about on this forum or elsewhere. A shame that many people have overlooked this great warrior!

So do you find him underrated, and why is he so seldom discussed?

G’day Philly, great post mate. I reckon he was definitely an underrated great of the past.

I wonder whether the bad way Saldivar career finished his career with the close and controversial win over Famechon and the heavy losses to Shibata and Jofre effected his standing.

    Cheers.

The Jofre loss really shouldn't count against him. Losing to an ATG after being retired for two years is nothing embarrassing.

He's obviously great, but it always puzzled me how he got away with squaring himself up like he did. He was so incredibly patient too, not the most dynamic fighter, which probably affected his standing. Just watch unerring accuracy of his shots against Sugar Ramos though, when he opens up on him. Something to behold.

I have always dreamed about a Sanchez vs Saldivar match...one of my top 10 hypotheticals

Agreed mate but the fans and writers can be really inconsistent as far as how bad losses at the end of a fighters career effect their overall standing.

It seems to be a more modern phenomenon. Cuevas is another guy who seems to have gotten downgraded reputation wise because of the way he ended his career as does Roy Jones jr.

    Cheers.

Exposure wise he's heavily underrated for sure. Guys a top 5 shoe in and is often rated higher.

Complete underrated ...one of many who fly under the radar and when you try an get a discussion going it just crashes and burns unfortunately.
Great fighter nonetheless. At the top when listing the greatest Mexican fighters of all time.

How underrated he is criminal, and trying to bring exposure to him is even more frustrating. I put this on Youtube back in April and guess how many views it's had in that entire span of time? ... 50 something.

I’m fine thanks pal. What with work, long time girlfriend and whatnot I don’t get on the forums too much nowadays.

And twitter takes up most of my discussion time nowadays (much easier to use, as silly as that sounds) and easier to reach a wider bunch of folk (a lot of idiots too)

Hope you’re well mate. I honestly do miss you lot, it’s been a bit weird coming back after being away so long to be honest.
