Well I think you already know the answer that you will get from most. Sanchez would likely be a heavy favorite to win this fight. In my heart I have always felt that Saldivar would give him a tough test and possibly take a close victory...but I wouldn't be willing to bet on it.

It would be like one of those fights where you like the underdog, and think that he could win...but deep down in your heart you don't really believe or excpect him to.

For me call call Vicente a live dog, but I would lean towards a sal UD.

A heavy favourite would be underestimating Vicente, though unfortunately you're probably right.

I like this fight alot because both fighters do very well against each others styles...Saldivar did very well against boxers, while Sanchez did very well against agressive fighters...what a great fight this would be! :good

I agree, this would be a great fight. This is one of my 4 favorite hypothetical fights along with:

    1. Jeff chandler vs Lupe Pintor
    2. Ismael laguna vs Roberto Duran
    3. Vicente saldivar vs Sal Sanchez
    4. Jose napoles vs Kid Gavilan

Agree with everyone that this would be a tremendous fight. Not out of the question either one wins. I'll take Sanchez by razor thin decision.

Sanchez UD too much speed and movement, too big, can handle himself fine in the exchanges and wins the outside boxing

Sanchez by a close, competitive decision as was usual of him. Saldivar's lack of height and reach might trouble him here, although he was adept at breaking down taller men over the distance. Two of the best 15 round fighters in there.

I'll go against the grain and pick Saldivar to take over late and beat Sal in a very close one.

The guy Sanchez lost to was a southpaw wasn't he? Escobar? Maybe that was the disputed draw. Not sure how much that had to do with his troubles in that fight but that, coupled with Saldivar's sharpshooting approach, spell trouble for Sanchez.
