Whether it's sooner or later we'll see Alexander Alexeev fight for a world title... it's SOONER. As soon as January 2009, in just a few weeks time.

But this is messed up a bit. According to Universum Box-Promotion press release, Alexeev, ranked #2 by the organization, fights Victor Emilio Ramirez, #9, for the interim WBO cruiser title.

But how the hell can you fight for this idiotic 'interim title', if the title is vacant? Of course initially it was #1 Banks vs. #3 Maccarinelli for the vacant title, but of course that fight never happened, so the title is still vacant. #2 Alexeev was left out in the first place. Now it seems he'll fight for the title before Maccarinelli, but for this interim version... interim title is about when due to some reason (like medical), the actual champ cannot defend his title vs. the (mandatory) challenger. But there's no champion at WBO at CW at the moment, so why fight for this 'vacant interim WBO world title'?

But I guess the interim title is better than no title. And sooner the better: Alexeev is destined to take Haye's footsteps, maybe after this Ramirez, it'll be Maccarinelli, just as for Haye.

Quite a messed up situation, but still and excellent news!

Poor Enzo. He really needed to catch a break after the Haye debacle and even the WBO route has been blocked off for him by the imposing Russian.

It´s a start...no current cruiserweight will stop Alexeev from taking over this division!
I´d love to see Haye coming back down to cruiser after Vitali knocks him silly and fight Alexeev one day.But i doubt Haye will ever fight at cruiser again. He won´t be willing to risk his "undisputed cruiserweight king" title...

This just gives me more ammunition - the WBO isn't a real world title.

At the moment, two, as well as WBC. Due to the WBA super champion crap, it has 5 'regular' = interim champs.

Some total scrub, same as Alexeev's past 16 opponents.

    'Interim WBO' :-((

This russian is german based. My guess is hes the next Zsolt Erdie. Expect 1 meaningful fight every 10 years, no more

I genuinely cant wait to see Alexeev on the world stage. He is ****ing superb, the exact type of fighter no one in the world wants to get in the ring with.

He will be a top ten poun for pounder in many peoples eyes in 2 years.

Yep, Enzo-Banks will happen in February in the UK, according to recent news. Hopefully the winner of the 2 fights will meet before Summer to make things clear. The Warren vs. Kohl negotiations will be 'interesting'. Not hard to see it will go to the purse bid.
