Victor Galindez vs Mate Parlov, 1978, Title Unification Bout, 15 Rounds. Parlov kept referring to Victor Galindez as Victoria Galindez following his disputed win over John Conteh in June 1978. Would Vicious Victor force him to eat his words? Or would Parlov out box Galindez?
This was the Victor Galindez who in May 1978 that scored a unanimous decision over Alvaro Yaqui Lopez for the second time. Victor would have bombarded that awkward WBC light heavyweight champion with quick counters, moving off the ropes. This fight would have to be halted in round 8 as Galindez tears off the plastic eyebrow covers off with his quick landing right hand to the eyes of southpaw Mate Parlov, causing a torrent of blood down the face of Parlov.. He would never refer to Victor Galindez as Victoria again. He would address Galindez as Mr. Victor Galindez.
Victor would counter, bully, batter and deck Parlov for a one sided 15 round decision. Really, there would be a gulf in class, champion's attributes, heart, ferocity, etc.,...separating these two. If he was so inclined to break away from his very successful pattern of winning 15 round decisions, Galindez might even force a stoppage in one of the "teen" rounds.
