We all know his incredible comp during his title reign, but to put everything into perspective, he had fought incredible comp prior to the Hutchins fight. 4 times against Jorge Ahumada, 6 times against Avenamar Peralta, 9 times against Juan Aguilar, also, Bossman Jones, Ray Anderson, Karl Zurheide, Eddie Owens and Jose Gonzalez. Not to mention he fought in the '68 Olympics. No wonder he was done by the age of 31. Scartissue
He was one of those fighters who always managed to find a way to win and his consistency at the top is testament to that. I'd say he was more a counter-puncher too, although many seem to regard him as a fighter who forced the action, due to his great strength and determination (which can be seen pulling him through many-a-time, the Kates fight a prime example, as alreadt mentioned). He was rather awkward to watch, lacked in finesse and great at anything in particularly, but always good the job done. A fine fighter who made the very best of his limitations, mainly due to his mental and physical strength.
