Where does he rank all-time as a light heavyweight? He beat: Eddie Mustafa Muhammad Mike Rossman Pierre Fourie twice Riche Kates twice Yaqui Lopez Twcie Len Hutchins Jesse Burnette Harold Skog Ramon Avenemar Peralta x3 Jorge Victor Ahumuda x4 Juan Aguilar x4 Jose Monon Gonzalez
I rate him , i dont know why , but i have him a bit behind the obvious elite (imo anyway) , who are Charles, Tunney, Spinks , Moore, Foster , Loughran . Maybe i should give him a bit more credit. I dont think i could move him above any of these. But i would put him alongside the likes of Billy Conn, Harold Johnson, Georges Carpentier. Some people might have different opinions , just mine though
Top 15. Super solid fighter...but he did have a tendency to be involved in close, controversial decisions (e.g. against Lopez, Mustapha, Kates, and a few others). Still, he was a damned good champion, all things considered,
Top 15/20......he is very very good H2H in my opinion...He would have a good chance against Michael Spinks in my opinion....
I hate, hate, hate his style. Perhaps the most negative style I have ever seen, lying on the ropes, really giving the fight away, then whaling like a drunken sailor at his opponent and somehow taking the play away and making it close. Then always getting the benefit of the doubt from the judges. The very fact that he knew when to turn tiger and get his ass in gear verifies that he knew his stuff though, and was a notch above most. I just can't stand watching him.
Getting back to the subject, Galindez's resume is a bit deceptive as he squeaked by a number of fights on close, disputed decisions. Personally, I thought Lopez was robbed in their rematch, and I thought Kates might've edged him in their rematch as well. He beat Mustafa when Mustafa was still very much green-ish and had only just moved up from MW, and that was another close, debatable decision as well. Also, Rossman is only considered a "big" win because Galindez lost to him the first time. Outside of that, Rossman wasn't really thought much of. Having said that, I can see Galindez perhaps just eeking into the top 20.
I love that kind of style...he kind of fooled everyone after he won the title vs Len Hutchins..people thought he would he a straight ahead, wild brawler with no defense or guile, but he quickly established that "sit and wait" counterpunching style..back against the ropes kind of style...and he was a master of playing the 15 round distance...finishing strong. He was a great champion in my books.
Spinks would find a way to beat him. Spinks pretty much found a way to beat everybody at light heavyweight. Galindez was definitely a top fighter but Spinks was not Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, he was very consistent and was a bad style matchu for most light heavy's.
