Victor ortiz breaks off with trainer danny garcia

    A very reliable source close to Team Ortiz was at our dental offices today for his dental work. He told us that Victor Ortiz, the kid they call “Vicious” in Kansas and Ventura County, California broke off with his trainer, Danny Garcia. Garcia is the brother of Robert Garcia, the trainer of unified super bantamweight champion, Nonito Donaire Jr.


    Apparently Ortiz was not too happy about the incident at his corner when he fought and lost via a 9th round TKO to Josesito Lopez of Riverside, CA.

    Ortiz was not happy the way Garcia managed the fight and according to our source that directly resulted in the double jaw fracture that Ortiz suffered during that fateful fight at the Staples Center in LA.

    Ortiz, we were told, advised Garcia at the end of round four that he felt his jaw was broken.

    Garcia however wanted none of that and advised Ortiz to continue to attack Lopez with the hope that he may land a haymaker and KO Lopez. Besides, Garcia felt that Ortiz was leading in the fight so he wanted Ortiz to continue.

    However, Ortiz was hit again in round 9 and the fracture in his jaw got worse. A second break occurred making it difficult if not impossible for Ortiz to close his mouth.

    It was only then that Garcia finally agreed with Ortiz that the fight be stopped. However, it was Ortiz who told the referee that he can not continue and wanted the fight stopped.

    Ortiz it was said is thinking of seeking the service of HOF trainer Freddie Roach but he is concerned about the availability of Roach who trains so many fighters at his gym.

    So besides Roach, he is checking out other trainers he could hook up with when he returns to the gym.

    Ortiz’ jaw is still wired shut. In a few weeks the doctor will be removing the immobilizing “arch bar” and wires that keeps his jaws together. We were told, the reinforcing metal plate that is held by screws however may stay longer depending on the progress of the healing.

    Thereafter, Ortiz can return to eating solid foods again and a few weeks after that, he should be good to return to training.

    As for Garcia, it is perhaps time to look for another fighter to train. You see, Ortiz is the only fighter he trains as he works a day job full time. In fact, he works (for Coca-Cola) from early morning to the middle of the afternoon. After his shift is over he rushes to the gym to train Ortiz.

    So ortiz wanted to quit in round 4. Pretty lame. This guy doesn't have the mentality for such a brutal sport.

    He should leave him. . . That was BS for Garcia not to stop the fight, and make Ortiz have to do it himself. . .

    I just can't hold this against Ortiz. . .

    Fighting on with a broken jaw deserves praise, and respect. . NOT fighting on with a broken jaw is just what most sane, normal people would do, and can't be held against him, IMO.

    Good for Danny..How embarassing is that, to have only one fighter and that fighter is a quitter...good riddance!!!

    He does. . He's just smart enough to realize "hey my ****ing jaw is cracked open," in order to preserve my career, I don't think I should fight on anymore. . .

    A boxer should NEVER have to make decisions like this. . Trainer should have instantly stopped the fight... Tell the Dr., and the Dr. would officially stop the fight.

    He's going to come back in 6 months or so. . Whip Lopez's ass. .

    And then shut everybody up again with another Berto like performance against Devon Alexander, or somebody like that.

    AS LONG AS Amir KHAAAAAAN (and he's knocking 'em out!), Amir KHAAAAAN (lemme hear ya shout!) doesn't get ahold of him, he will be good.

    Ortiz " I need a coach who understands when I need to quit, someone who is going to look out for me in my tumultuous career. I need someone who can pump me up like a Spartan and let me down like a carebear...I need..I just need....someone who cares."

    Ortiz thinks Roach can save him?

    Get real. If anything he'd get worse under Roach.

    I know the names of the good trainers..but I'm not going to run through the mental process of figuring out which would suit Ortiz best.

    Lol, off topic, but I think this could be a violation of Dr./Patient confidentiality. . .

    Don't think the Dr., or any of his employees are supposed to talk about anything that is said to them by patients (barring a few circumstances). . . Unless they gave a waiver or something. . .

    What was his excuse for ending that fight early, oh yes, I'm to young to be taking punishment like this :patsch

    You ever heard of the boy who cried wolf. If you have then you will know why Garcia did what he did.

    Look man if you have it in your head that your coach , the guy who you en trust with your life and your training which are the 2 most important things in a fighters life , is not looking out for you !!! , or if you feel he has shown you a lack of respect , or worse still you feel that in his eyes the respect has gone for you !!!!

    Its time to move on , Ortiz has the right to do this given the circumstances

    Does it really say he wanted to quit? It says he told Garcia he thought his jaw was broken, it is then down to the trainer to assess the situation and PROTECT the boxer. That is a massively important role for a coach. Ortiz carried on. He could have not come out for the 5th, 6th, etc if he didn't have the mentality for this sport.

    Or if you lose a fight you can take some responsibility. A trainer can only do so much for you. Ultimately its up to you to perform. Fighters dont stay with a trainer long enough these days to get anything from them
