They say that one cannot go back home again but that is exactly what welterweight and the now 24 - 2 -1 Victor Ortiz had to do. The former Garden City, Kansas amateur standout, who now lives and trains in Oxnard. California. Had to return to his birth place and home town to once again find himself and get his bearings after his defeat at the hands of KO artist

    - 1 Maidena was coming on strong in the 6th and had Ortiz stunned and bleeding. Ortiz later gave a rambling after fight interview where he sounded a lot like a fighter who was contemplating hanging up his gloves for good.

Ortiz had Maidena hurt and down several times early in the fight but he could not stop the not-to be-denied Maidena. Maidena weathered the storm. He, Maidena showed the heart of a champion. Ortiz showed he had a weakness, a ***** in his armor. He had finally found someone tougher and harder hitting than him. He stepped up and lost.

Shortly after this fight, promoter and co-owner of Golden Boy productions. Oscar De LaHoya, insisted that Ortiz go home and mend the broken fences and relationships that he had long since turned his back on. His relationship with his father, and past trainer and mentor Robert Gonzalez and others in his hometown and birth place. Whom had supported him and rooted for him when he was just a skinny amateur.

Victor Ortiz, had lost his roots and his way. He has however, found them once again. He will come back stronger than before.

That is exactly what Ortiz was told or asked to be more exact. "Where was your jab"? That is what we all wanted to know.

I still am a fan of ortiz and if he lives up to his potential,I think he could be an elite fighter someday. In fact if he were to just fight a little smarter i think hes probably already there.good luck victor:good

The most important thing I learned from that is that the word chink is censored on this website.
