Victor Ortiz vs Floyd Mayweather

Well he doesn't really. It would be an amazing win no doubt, but it wouldn't be the best win on Pacs resume.

Pac on the other hand would enhance Floyds reputation tenfold.

 

Lol at people giving Ortiz any form of a chance in this fight. It's trash, pure and simple. There's only one man out there for Floyd to fight and likewise, the sooner they realise this the better off we'll all be.

All of whom bar Marquez have been dominated, most stopped. That's not mentioning a load of other fights in between.

How many relevant fighters has he not faced?

Casamayor and Juan Diaz were both taken care of by JMM.... he was past 135 by the time Katsidis beat Mitchell and was ready for a big fight - which he got and lost against Marquez. Judah took two year long breaks and is past it anyway. Williams and Martinez are both middleweights.

Would I like Pacquiao to defeat Floyd? Yes - absolutely. But his place in history as a great fighter is secure, even if he loses to Shane and ends up retiring, or defeats Shane and takes the winner of the 140lb cleanup which will probably be Bradley.... or Marquez again win or lose.

That slate is pretty much unsurpassed in the era of fractured/non-credible titles in the lower weights.

Contrast that to Floyd, who as the poster above you pointed out wanted absolutely nothing to do with Cotto or Margarito, and dragged Marquez all the way up to 147 for his ''comeback'' fight.

You need to face facts and realise that his career at 140 and above has been absolutely **** poor. Unless you're a raging ***** (which I'm starting to believe) it's indefensible as a boxing fan.

If Pacquiao beats Mayweather it's the cherry on top of the icing on the cake. If Mayweather beats Pacquiao.... it's the cake.

If I did not go to work for 18 months I would forget what work was when I got back. Surely this long lay off will affect his skills and I can only assume when/if he fights again to see this.

 

:thumbsup This. While we can all argue as to who would win between May and Pac, it cant be argued who has the better resume and who history will rate higher. Pac has beaten all the men Mayweather refused to fight.

It would certainly be the most high profile victory, and his best remembered victory, if he did get it.

 

I think his top 3 wins are over Barrera I, Cotto and either Marquez II/Morales II - Morales was a bit faded but it was his last stand (until last week ) and he arguably lost to JMM.

If he were to beat Floyd many people would point out that Mayweather has only fought three times in four years - and perhaps have a point.

The only thing he's got over his contemporaries is that he's undefeated, but everybody else has fought pretty much everybody else, unlike him. There's no signature win on his record against a fellow elite fighter, in the way that Shane beat Oscar, or Oscar himself beat Whitaker or Quartey. His best win is probably against Corrales, who if you took his left hook away was pretty limited in the grand scheme of things.

Ya you see, people will say he Morales was past it, and that Cotto was damaged. I think Barrera I was his best, cleanest win. Getting Mayweather now, unless Floyd looked lackluster at some stage, would edge ahead of it though I think.

Floyd is lacking the elite fights, the kind that Manny can boast, but on his own, his resume has plenty to make him a good scalp.

Both Cotto and Morales were slightly past it, I'm not denying that.

But take those away and you can always through in the brutal whacking of DLH, battering Margarito at 165lbs or possibly becoming the first man to stop Mosley.

Most of Mayweather's wins can be talked down too. Hatton was on the slide..... DLH wasn't convincing, Baldomir was crap, Gatti average at world class, Castillo arguably beat him and so on.

You can do it with pretty much everyone, but when there's the depth that Pacquiao has it's increasingly difficult..... Mayweather's slate is average (actually it's **** poor in relation to his ability) and a few fights can be flagged.

There aren't many fighters currently that can get anywhere near what Pac has done - even if (say) Froch stops Johnson, beats Ward, then a few of Pascal/Bute/Kessler/Dawson he'll still be short despite beating Taylor, Pascal, Dirrell and AA.

 

I'd just like to reaffirm, I'm just saying Floyd could be the best win for Manny, not putting their achievements in the same league

silly comment... Thats easily the best win for any fighter @147... you can dislike mayweather, but don't downplay his status. They're eachothers best Win,otherwise this wouldnt be a 100mil. fight.
