@ 147 Lets say Ortiz cant find an opponent and needs a keep busy fight. Guzman can make the weight comfortably and without cheating the scales. How would it play out? Personally if Guzman isnt completely rusted and can still perform like he did in the Funeka rematch I think he would be more competitive than Berto was.
Dont think he could keep Ortiz off him... Guzman could punch a little at Junior feather, even though he kept his speed when he moved up , he seemed to leave his power there at JF... He was maybe an average puncher at best at LW, so as a fat welter, he's probably barely hitting harder than Malinaggi right now... I agree that with his speed he could, open up on Ortiz a few times, but i think hes too small... Hell be like another Steve Forbes when he moved all the way up to JM,WW a gatekeeper at best, but to small to beat the top contenders... Guzman has showed a good chin for the most part (although hurt by Funeka) but Whats gonna happen when his chubby little but gets nailed by Ortiz? Who knows though Manny and Forbes carried their chin up.
Joan would probably come it at 154, just for the sake of consistency, I think Victor can rough him and up and overwhelm him with power
if guzman can take punches with big punchers at that weight and if he could carry the weight comfortably retaining some of that slickness then i'd pick him to at least win a close decision. Ortiz would be very relentless though and would **** him up if he goes trough the fight looking like **** like he did in his past few fights
at 147 Guzman can be as good or better than in their recent fighting. My only question is how could have affected their lack of activity at the age of 34 years. Usually this has been its weight in the night their battles (Soto, Funeka I and II, including his latest fighting Davies). So I see no problems in maintain their speed while improve their stamina and power, since it would not have to wear your body to 24 hours to make weight before. On the other hand, Victor Ortiz represents a major challenge, only for their strength and punch, technically the abilities of these two are not on the same scale. If Guzman can stop the rust and be in good physical condition, would have no problems in passing over Ortiz in a wide UD.
#1 Selcuk Aydin has been the WBC Mandatory for over a year, so if he can't find an opponent, he'll just fight him OR get stripped of his belt... it's that simple.. with that said... Guzman has the skills to easily outbox Ortiz, but he's older, smaller, and more inactive.. Oh, and i think Guzman is suspended... He tested positive for something..
Segura-Calderon comes to mind here. I see the much bigger man imposing himself on the older smaller fighter on route to a stoppage victory.
