...if he continues to fight like a runner. Congrats on that victory but not looking forward to see him fight like that agian..............................that's all.
He's not got a massive fan base to start with, so maybe his new style can make him a darling of the purists.
He lost me after the madaina fight. I will never go back and support him. Good luck to him in his career.
I thought Ortiz looked a million bucks in his performance against Campbell, he was just as impressive as Khan was. I'm looking forward to his next fight.
Never understood how long-time followers can give up on a guy so easy. Ortiz gave you one of the finest brawls last year, he went toe to toe vs. an absolute monster for your entertainment, and when he realized he came up short, he went out on his own terms rather than on a stretcher as he rightfully saw the KO coming. To put things into perspective, the last shot landing on Ortiz was the same body blow that left Maidana's next two opponents screaming on the canvas in pain. Victor was beaten but conscious enought to see what's coming. Under the circumstances, being beat down, cut, hurt and punished to the body at age 21 in a severly miscalculated move by the managedment, I'll never hold the ending againt Ortiz, especially as he stood up to fight after that severe knockdown in round 1.
Until he started eating right hands the way he did. They really need to do something about that. Reminds me of Judah showing Cotto's weakness for uppercuts and straights. Mosley capitalized it, and Margarito shut Cotto down because of it, as well as Pacquiao. Maidana exposed the weakness...Campbell was too old to really capitalize on it, but put him with someone fresh and skilled and with decent power, and they will take him out the same way Maidana did.
Notwithstanding the fact that Campbell resembled all the pop and verve of a damp sock stuck to the side of the washing machine (you guys know there's always one of those little *******s stuck to the side there), Ortiz fought a very sound, very commendable fight. He put his punches together well, boxed impressively, and generally accomplished what he came to do. Sure, it would have made for a more dramatic display if he had dusted Campbell, but every day ain't Sunday. As for Khan, I wouldn't have any qualms putting Ortiz in with him. That fight, regardless of what some on here think, would be very competitive.
Doesn't matter about fans as long as he wins. Fair play to him, fighters who can change there style to benefit them are always greater than those who don't learn.
he learned from his mistakes...he boxes more rather than going toe to toe. I respect that, and its a better way to stabilize his mental game. IMO he can still compete with the top competition at 140, and if he ever rematches Maidana, he will win.
