Has anyone heard anything from this kid regarding whether or not he's gonna return to boxing or not? i haven't heard a single thing since the day after his recent embarrassment suggesting that he will return. i last heard he wanted a rematch with maidana, but nothing after that for months now. Very strange... I hope he learned his lesson and comes back to actually FIGHT someday. You can't deny he was a hell of a fighter to watch and I really don't see much reason for a fighter with that much talent to just up and quit.
There was something in the Pasadena star news about him maybe 2 weeks after the fight, He says he is going to continue to fight and pretty much played it off like he had some sort of hand injury or something like that. I dont think he should continue obviously he doesnt have the mentality needed for this game.
it's hard to argue with that, but who knows? given the response to what happened maybe he learned that if he's gonna be a fighter, he's gotta be a fighter.
if he comes back thats what we hope he would have learned, We hope he learned that rather than to just agree with what Kellerman said and what the fans say, in other words lets hope he does learn rather than to just come back and tell us what we want to hear. Exciting style, great power the kid showed guts but in the end quit, so in a sense its not as easy to Hate on him becuase he did try a couple of times but then to see him quit well it was the worse set of boxing blue balls that any fan could get
hate to sound like teddy atlas because he's so annoying, but ortiz needs to learn how to behave like a fighter
To suggest he's not got the mentality needed for the game is a bit harsh on Victor in my opinion. In the following interview he talks about his personal issues surround him in the lead up to that fight, an injured right hand etc, and that he wasn't really focused on his opponent or what his corner was telling him. Regardless of whether it's true or not what he says (I personally think it is true), he deserves a bit of credit for putting up a fight against beast of an opponent. I mean take a look at Khan, he suffered an even more embarrasing and brutal loss to a nobody, yet he's managed to get back on his feet. Victor is the same age (22), and in my opinion has got more resilience than Khan, and possibly more talented. He'll be back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQSv...wthread.php?p=4837533&feature=player_embedded
Khan was knocked the **** out that simple, Had he had the opportunity to make a choice as to weather or not he should fight on who knows what we would have saw. With Ortiz, he had that choice and he decided he had enough, the post fight interview confirmed how he felt because at that point he was considering another line of work.... its not being harsh on Ortiz to say that he may not have the mentality for this game, Ortiz is the one who put himself in this position
I get where your coming from. Despite being pummelled to floor TWICE by bombs, Khan kept trying to get back up and fight. But maybe Ortiz was in an emotional state right after, and wasn't really thinking about what he said. I bet he'll be back stronger.
Ortiz knew he had enough and was smart not to take anymore unnecessary punishment. He was done and will live to fight another day. Just because a fighter doesn't go balls out and let another man destroy them doesn't mean they're finished or don't have it upstairs mentally. UFC fighters tap out all the time and come back to KO opponents and put on stellar performances.
In the interview it is apparent that the kid has serious family issues. He has the physical talent to be a success, however the mental aspect is just as important as the physical so I don't know. I have a feeling that he should take at least two more fights before he tries to fight anybody of note. I hope he resolves his issues.
It's not so much that he quit which soured people on Ortiz, it's that he basically revealed a complete lack of desire for the sport during the post fight interview by stating that he's not willling to take a beating for no one. And seriously, what the hell are you doing in the ring if you're not willing to go out on your shield? Having the courage to takes those kinds of risks is what makes fighters great.. and if you don't have that kind of dedication to the sport you mind as well get the **** out because you're not going anywhere with that kind of attititude.
I hope he does come back stronger, His quitting was embarrassing and disappointing. Was expecting a lot from this kid.
the one thing going for victor ortiz after his last fight is his youth. if he would have quit much later in his career then yes, i would say he's done but maybe he'll learn from this nasty lesson and come back stronger and better than ever.
