Tbf it did seem at times in R8 that Romero was forcing the pressure on Cruz to maybe try and stop him - but was getting a taste of his own spoiler medicine. You could say karma was his undoing as much as lack of killer instinct when Cruz was in trouble...although he did seem to not be very consistent in keeping his boot on Cruz's throat for a full three minutes to bag himself what could've been a nice minor upset.

 

Alejandro Jair González Díaz vs. Frency Fortunato Saya, 10 rounds @ featherweight

 

Frency has a pretty stark height advantage (listed at 5'10", guessing based on how they stack up together Alejandro is no more than 5'7") without that crazy hairdo adding several more inches. Reminds me of Denver, the Last Dinosaur - anybody remember that cartoon?

 

Yep, that is González's nickname. Fortunato Saya's is undeniably cooler - El Jodón (or, The Nuisance/Pain In The Arsehole).

That show was awesome. Just watched it through again on Disney+ with my 9 year old this year; he loved it.

Had a lot more adult/satiricial humor than I realized back then. And that ending..

 

At least, El Jodón is Fortunato Saya's nickname according to a quick Google search...but on his trunks it says "El Gallo" (The Rooser).

I suppose a fighter can have multiple.

 

Weird fight. González struggling to land for long stretches as FFS throws pot shot body jabs and then flits outside with some awkward upright slickness - but then scoring easily with his own sawing left jab on the face late in rounds when FFS gets tired.
