VID: Erislandy Lara & Vanes almost go at it at weigh in!

Too bad. I hope it's a good fight but I just think Marti's gonna get lit up and he doesn't really punch hard enough to have that "punchers chance".

 

I don't see this as clear cut Lara.

 

Okay, first I am leaning towards Lara by decision, so I'm not biased for Vanes. However, a few points I disagree with:

1. Ouma was not shot when he fought Vanes. Ouma arguably beat Rosado the previous fight and Rosado is no bum. Was it peak Ouma? No.

2. Ouma was competitive with GGG after fighting Vanes. Again Ouma was not shot.

3. Ouma and Lara are southpaws, that is where the comparison ends. Lara is a boxer-puncher (counter-puncher) with low punch output. Lara picks his spots carefully. Ouma is a high volume swarmer (who I will concede has less power than Lara). They are different styles.

4. Greene clearly lost the fight. I will say Vanes didn't look super impressive but he got the W nonetheless.

 

1) Either way, that version of Ouma is leagues below present day Lara defensively and power wise.

2) Calling that performance competitive is a bit of an overstatement.

3) I agree that Lara fights nothing like Ouma or Greene. My point in bringing up Vanes' fights with other southpaws was to illustrate his inability to avoid straight lefts and the difficulty he has in coping with the angles presented by lefties in general.

4) Yes, Greene lost the fight but he was able to land his jab and straight left at will. Vanes won that fight on workrate alone.

 

Vanes will win this tonight. He will KO or UD Lara easily. I'm telling you now. I bet all my vcash on Vanes and I also bet real cash on him. I will make money tonight .
