Oddly enough, I agree with much of what you say, probably just not the add ons that come with it. China Hand Joe is much the same way...maybe the brightest guy I have encountered when it comes to actual knowledge.

I argue with him all the time that Jones would realise immediatley that Calzaghe's footspeed and can match his and would then resort to timing right hands and fighting very cautiously, pot shotting if you will. But the timed rights would also stun Calzaghe and keep him at bay enough for Jones to fight this way to a 9-3 decision.

But his thread is going to consist of 'Calzaghe will beat Jones you stupid American ****ers who are blinded by the American media, but Jones is better than Hopkins...etc.etc.etc.'.

yep it was.
only senior amatuer fight he lost.
he went on after this fight to win the aba (uk amatuer title) at welterweight /light welter and middleweight in consecutive years as he put on weight, until 1992 when he was not allowed to box in the 92 barcelona olympics because the welsh aba would not allow his dad in the corner.

he would have been favourite.

 

Wow, he didn't slap as much back then. His slapping technique is much more refined today.
