    Another Calzaghe-Hopkins thread ?

This has been done to death.

Several hundred posters replied to a poll the week after the post and the clear consensus was that Calzaghe won the bout.

    A US location

    A US Ref.

    Three US judges.

Bernard won two rounds on all three score-cards

Joe won four rounds on all three score-cards.

Of the remaining rounds, Joe won five on two of the three cards and Bernard won one on two of three cards.

    Alltogether, 9 rounds to three.

    Three US judges.

Harold Lederman: 9 rounds to three.

Manny Stewart: "This wasn't a hard fight to score."

While most of the rounds were close, the fight wasn't.

116-111 was the most reasonable score.

Bernard didn't win in America with three US judges and a US ref, facing a guy fighting at 175 for the first time and who needed the first three or four rounds to figure him out.

But some think he could win a rematch in Wales ?

Bernard was very upset at losing to Taylor. He got his rematch and the fight went down pretty much like the first one.

Why would Calzaghe 2 be different ?

If he'd let his hands go against Calzaghe the way he did against Pavlik, things would have been different ?

So Bernard just learned how to let his hands go the night he fought Kelly ?

If Liston had just nailed Clay the way he nailed Patterson, he could have beat him ?

Calzaghe is not Pavlik. They're not even in the same general league.

I predicted that Bernard would beat Kelly (Though the margin surprised me).

If Calzaghe's 'slaps' were so ineffective, why didn't Bernard just walk through them.

(See what Lacy and Jones had to say about those slaps !)

One guy came confidant into the other guy's back yard and came to win, so he didn't care who the judges were.

    The other came to survive.

Put this topic to sleep !

I wish these threads would stop. It's just such a waste of everyone's time. I believe Hopkins won, most disagree, but none of us are ever going to change the minds of the other side, so we should all just drop it and talk about other things. This debate was interesting and worthwhile in the aftermath of the fight, but Joe has retired without taking the rematch, so the issue is dead now. Let's talk about Hopkins v Adamek or something instead. There's plenty more to boxing than festering over a controversial decision from last year. These things happen in boxing, it's not a science, they will always happen. Let's make a collective effort to drop it and move on, both sides of the debate!!

    I'd prefer Hopkins v Adamek. It's bigger risk-bigger reward for B-Hop.

Stop whining. Calslappy lost. He cannot throw a punch properly. Oh, Steward did not say it was an easy fight to score. Get the facts straight. That was Lederman who is not exactly a guru at scoring fights. If he was so good he would be doing it for real, not providing an HBO scorecard. Slapping workrate does not take precedence over clean, effective punching.

Hopkins lost because Calzaghe won more rounds. A highlight of Hopkins best points in the fight doesn't change that.

So it was a broken bone as the reason why Calzaghe could not throw a proper punch? What about the rest of his fights, because he has always punched that way?:think
