Good vid Rummy, I watched it early this morning but was too tired to comment. I think Saunders poses a far bigger risk than many of the posters on here seem to think, the way GGG fought Brook isn't indicative of how he'll fight Saunders, he'll probably fight at a slower pace, which may play right into Billy Joe hands, GGG fought Brook at a break neck pace coming at him like a man possessed throwing everything including the kitchen sink, and Brook was still able to roll with or slip a ton of GGG's shots. Billy Joe's ability to roll and slip is immaculate, as good if not better than Brook, just watch the last six rounds of the Eubank match and the Blandamura match, both of them are coming full steam ahead, throwing literally a maelstrom of punches from every angle imaginable and he slipped more than he was hit with. So if GGG fight him fast, it might play into BJS wheelhouse, if he fights him slow, it still might. Just a thought. Billy Joe's chin I'd say is equal to if not better than Brook's so I doubt he'll fold after one shot, while I think he'll lose on points to GGG, it wouldn't shock me on the least if it went the distance, and with the Brit judges, you never know what'll happen.
As far as other MW's that might give GGG problems, I doubt many will, but Korobov, Derevyanchenko, Khurtsidze, Khytrov, Eubank Jr. and Sulecki might prove a little frustrating for a few rounds. I give Derevyanchenko or Korobov the best chance for an upset.
Alfonso Blanco could be another one. He's supposed to be Eubank's next opponent and an upset is very possible.
Lara poses more problems than Billy does. Brook showed that you can get off on him first with fast straight punches. Lara is bigger , quicker and a harder hitter than Brook. And brings the southie stance which has been proven problematic for Golovkin. 3G may beat Lara , but his team clearly don't want it for fear of his face getting mashed up in victory , and it will- closed eye's , cuts , burst lips , swollen skull etc. Golovkin ain't coming out of that fight with a pretty face.
If BJS cannot beat GGG then no one else at 160 comes close IMO. I give BJS a chance as well. He is underrated. Kid has skills. He is a sharp mover.
I know you've been big on Saunders at least since before the Andy Lee fight, where you were confident BJS would handle Lee, as he ultimately did (despite the fact I always personally liked Andy and was hoping he'd pull it off). I think Saunders and Jacobs could both potentially trouble Golovkin, but I don't think either is likely to have prolonged stretches of success with GGG. I think Saunders' activity and stamina would ultimately be his undoing, although as you noted, if GGG starts slower and more measured, it could play into Saunders' hands. And as for Jacobs, I imagine he lacks the durability to withstand any prolonged assaults from Golovkin. But Jacobs is talented, and if he can manage to land some power shots before receiving many, he could make things interesting.
I disagree. I know a lot of people have long viewed Lara as a serious threat against Golovkin, and that Brooks' efforts theoretically can be supportive of that claim. But I still don't think Lara would be tricky enough to seriously trouble Golovkin. I like BJS's chances better myself. But the Lara fight is a bit more appealing after seeing some of the things Brook was able to do with Golovkin.
BJS would test him because he's a little unorthodox, is southpaw and has good boxing skills, but I feel Canelo with his size, strength and combination punching and most importantly his superb ability to slip and counter is what it's going to take to beat GGG.
Lara hurt Trout a lot more than Canelo did and im pretty sure Canelo hits harder than Brook. Lara's will do serious damage to a guy with zero head movement like 3G. There's a reason they want no part of that fight. BJS was uncomfortable with being pressured by Blackwell- a very ordinary boxer. Has no power and even less pop going back wards. GG smashes right through him. His foot work going forward is just as good as Billy's going back wards.
Since Saul Alvarez wants no part of him... I'd love to see Triple G go ahead and fight Erislandy Lara, then Saunders. Following those, a bout with Ievgen Khytrov might be an interesting affair somewhere down the line.
Gasnelo is the easiest fight out there for Triple G. He only knows how to come forward. Has low out put , feather fists , slow feet and only fights in spurts. It would be a massacre
GGG answered Brooks callout, now let's see him answer Lara's! If no BJS or Jacobs fight, I'd prefer him fight Lara compared to a toureano Johnson or someone of that caliber..
No way.. GGG would try to come in wreck less and he'd pay with counters down the pipe.. And the more you come with the offense, the more you're going to get countered.. Canelo is the man to beat him.
