For better or worse, here's my worthless take on the fight, for anyone interested. This content is protected
Been impatiently waiting for Richard Dwyer's post-fight video, but this is second best. Excellent work as always Rummy. You said so many rounds were close and mentioned both guys strengths and success, so I was surprised as the rounds from 4 to 11 went by you gave them all to Golovkin. I gave the 6th and 11th to Canelo, and others gave him the 10th.
I also had 8-4 Golovkin. Byrd's card means the fix was in, I can't come up with any justifiable explanation. Takes heat off of the draw card. The two fights I looked forward to the most in the last 12 months Kovalev Ward 1 and this Canelo GGG. I felt the better man got ripped off both times. But boxing continues to bank on that we'll keep coming back for more and they're probably right. Good stuff Rummy
Exact same as me.. Except I gave the 1st to Golovkin based on the strength of his jab, but it was a close one. Good as always Rummy!
I thought the fight was pretty competitive throughout. Canelo was doing decent work in rounds GGG was winning, and vice versa. The rounds I thought were most competitive, were 1, 3, 6, 10, and 11. But between rounds 4 and 11, I thought Gennady won those rounds, despite being close.
Yeah. It's possible for a fight to be competitive and clear, even lopsided. Some fail to realize this. There have been near shut outs where almost every round has been competitive! Sometimes scorecards don't tell the entire story of a fight, same with superficial damage.
Hey Rummy if a rematch takes place between Canelo and GGG ,when do you think will it happen in may or september?
Very close to the way i saw it, gave the 3rd to Golovkin and gave the 11th to Canelo and the 5th round i scored as a drawn round and i hate doing that. Was 116-113 to Golovkin for me. As for the general run of the fight i see it the same way as your good self, Canelo started sharp and fast and got the better of GGG with his heavy looking and lightening fast counters then it levelled out and then as the rounds went on Canelo started to look a little worn and tired, GGG was keeping up the pressure and although what came back from Canelo was wonderful it was coming back less and less and certainly less than enough to give him the rounds when Golovkin was keeping up the work rate and pressure. But Canelo was also getting his 2nd wind and although i think he just fell short of winning the 10th he rallied and claimed 11 and 12. Both men fought so hard and provided a great fight for us that the actual result aside i was buzzing after that one, so hope there is another. Official cards really soured the end, was a real shame to hear Booing aimed at Canelo it wasnt him it was the cards. He put in the performance of a lifetime and should be getting the opposite of boos for it.
I honestly have no idea. I think it makes sense for May, but at the same time, I can understand that Oscar may want to stretch it out with some interim fights first. But I'm hoping for May myself.
I thought Canelo easily won the first 2 rounds. GGG probably thought that as well and than decided to go into a different gear and upped the pace which Canelo couldn't handle, forcing him onto the ropes. Its there GGG started to land his jab, he did miss with a lot but he landed far to many jabs which can't be ignored just because Canelo's work looked crisper. This is boxing, its surprisingly not about quality of punches, its about quantity. Watching live I give Canelo 1-2 and 11. I watched it again and feel its a fair score.
