Exclusive club wouldn't be so exclusive if the belt situation was the way it is nowadays.

Even with the way things are these days, it's still rather exclusive. In some sense, even more so. Because despite the great abundance of alphabet trinkets currently available, Wilder is still only the 17th man to join the club. You'd think with so many more belts now, than say when Joe Louis reigned - that it would be easier to pick up a trinket and milk it for 4 defenses.

All the same, I do totally understand what you're saying, and have been working on a way to try and "level the playing field" somewhat with that, with a mini-formula I'll present whenever I next revisit this topic.

I too see improvement in Wilder.
I've criticized his form and his competition but he does look comfortable in the ring and has always demonstrated excellent stamina.

He does have good technique on some of his punches, in particular the jab. His uppercut is a new wrinkle that will serve him well.

That said though, he still has a few major technical flaws that a more skilled fighter will exploit if he doesn't correct them. That slow wide flat right that he telegraphs will cost him some day if left uncorrected.

I see more comedic value in your ****ogy to the number of defenses given the calibre of his competition but Joe Louis was taken to task for his "bum of the month club." But at some point Wilder will have to face a serious fighter because as Joe Louis said, "You can run but you can't hide." (forever)

Well part of the reason is that Kbros have been keeping the belts in check, how hard will it be to do so in the future though? Just win some paper belt, milk it against 4 third tier opponents, here you go.

We were talking about this a couple of weeks ago. With four defenses, Wilder is in exclusive company. It isn't very common. People today seem to have lost sight of that because Wlad Klitschko was around for so long.

Fellow champs Anthony Joshua has one. Tyson Fury may not even make one successful defense, depending on how well Klitschko performs.

People around here seem to spend day and night running Wilder into the ground. But he's already been a very successful WBC heavyweight champion compared to so many who came before him.

Heavyweight titles have tended to change hands fairly often.

There have always been "paper" belts. Ellis had a paper belt. Terrell did. Dokes. Witherspoon. Thomas. Tubbs. Page. Coetzee. Weaver. Tate. Norton. Moorer. Ruiz. Valuev. Chagaev. Berbick. Bonecrusher Smith. Tucker. After Joe Louis retired, Europe recognized Lee Savold as world heavyweight champion when he beat Bruce Wood****. When there was a color line, there were black heavyweight champs. When Jack Johnson was the champ, there were white heavyweight champs.

All that being said, there haven't been many guys who made as many as four successful defenses in a row.

Still the #4 heavyweight and that is not going to change anytime soon. In fact the only way is down.

I certainly think Wilder's title defences look more like the progress of an up-coming prospect/contender rather than a title reign and he's definetly been coddled especially for the first few years of his career but one positive thing is certain about him, he's hungry and eager to get better. Whoever his first opponent who isn't mismatched will be, whether It's Joshua, or Povetkin, or Wlad, Fury, win or lose, he will be back and continue to be hungry.

Really if you fight bums you will win.. Thats the crux of it...

Arreola was beyond shot and the result was always going to be what it was.. Wilder may be the best heavyweight since Ali but until he stop fighting these bums in these bum events then he won't get any real credit...

Wilder and his management team are a disgrace. People on this forum that defend Wilder try to berate AJ in the same manner many do to Wilder ( competition ) but the fact that there is double figures between the 2 in fights taken does not mask the FACT that Wilder is protected and after watching the windmill display against a never was ( Arreola ) it is blatantly more obvious that Wilder could be worse than Charles Martin PMSL.

Wilder has improved a great deal, he is actually starting to box and put his combinations together. His jab is getting better, I saw him hook off a jab which I thought was nice. He needs to use it more to control the fight. It will strengthen the rest of his game. That uppercut is gonna break some hearts, plus that three punch combo ending with a left hook was nice. He still needs to learn control when he has a fighter in trouble, that wild sh*t is gonna get him in trouble, his check hook is wide as hell and he sometimes backs straight back against the ropes. Once he starts throwing that jab to the body, who knows. His biggest threat out there is Joshua because he has better technique and better control.
