That was an interesting documentary. The fighters all seemed like good genuine guys. Gary Shaw seems like a total tosser tho. Gives me another reason for wanting Froch to beat Dirrell! Ward not having to travel is a bit of a **** take too. He isn't even bringing a belt so he shouldn't be in a position to dictate terms.
anybody know anything about this series? is it basically just a knockoff of 24/7 or countdown from HBO? is there just one episode per fight or for the whole tournament? are there going to be multiple episodes per fight as the tournament advances?
Note that they only have about 21 mins, not 30 though. I agree, they didn't give any idea of the structure (even just say "combination of round robin and elimination") and gave NO historical context whatsover (it is historically unprecedented) - it IS innovative and is historically significant, play that up! Editing between fighter bits and promoters is fine, though - it keeps the show from being bogged down on a repetative topic. But I would have given more time over to the promoters, too - that's interesting stuff & they are potentially great characters. That's the big win of the show - giving a bit of a promoter's view. Really, they should have done 2 shows - one overviewing the tourney & the promoters/Showtime/Raphael bit and one introducing the first 4 fighters. Things wouldn't be so rushed and a casual fan could get a much better handle on what's going on.
He fights 2 other US fighters, to start. Sauerland must have been given something for Ward/Kessler to be in US (AA/Taylor in Germany?), plus I'm sure Showtime wanted at least one of the Round 1 fights in US. If Froch was serious about Froch/Kessler on the pitch, my question is how the hell did the tourney favourite end up travelling in his first 2 fights?
Can't wait to watch this later (I'm on my PS3 right now.) I'm glad there will be pretty much an episode every day, but why is it shown every where except in the U.S.?
Good watch, Im rooting for taylor & Abraham, shame they fight eahc other first. All 6 seems like nice guys anyways.
