That's all the presidents in my lifetime, damn Bernard is old. I agree he deserved the nod in the Taylor match, but not in the Calzaghe match, I side with Joe.. I'm not writing Bernard off in the Smith Jr. match, you'd be crazy to think he doesn't have a chance, but I'm kind of dreading it for reasons I mentioned on another thread, 51 is a little too old to make a comeback against a big puncher who's aggressive and throws good combos and is very active, sadly I think Hopkins will be hurt early and Joe has proved he's a good finisher, and unlike Kovalev who had confidence in his skills and could take his time, Joe if he hurts him will jump on him and finish him off. I really wish he'd have just retired, and kept his never being KO'd record intact. If this were the Hopkins of 5 years ago, I'd have easily picked him over Smith though. Regardless I'm really pumped for this match, its a pity it couldn't be a double feature with Salido-Miura, but hopefully they'll find a good replacement for Orlando. Good Video as usual Rummy.
More impressive: Sylvester Stallone still being a legit action star at 68 or Bernard Hopkins becoming the IBF champion at 49? That HGH is a hell of a drug.
I disagree here CST. A puncher, with limited technical skills is exactly the guy Bernard would still be able to beat at this advanced age. We know he has a chin made of granite, and most you'd do to him is get a couple of KD's if you're not a good technical puncher as well. So he might (and I think he will) touch canvas against this guy, but he has a very good chance of outboxing Smith in this case
This content is protected Good riddance to the ugliest style of boxing of all time, i can't watch him personally.
I think Hopkins still has enough tricks up his sleeve to frustrate Smith Jr. to a clear points win. Might have to overcome a scary moment or two early, but unless father time has COMPLETELY caught up to him he should take this. But as the saying goes, father time is the only undefeated opponent in boxing. It's entirely possible that he loses here.
I actually thought Hopkins lost the first Taylor fight, and I thought that one was extremely easy to score, with Hopkins only taking round 5 during the first 8, before dominantly sweeping the final 4, ultimately falling short 113-115. But I thought Hopkins clearly won the Taylor rematch, and I had Hopkins edging Calzaghe by a point with the knockdown being the difference maker. But all of those fights were close and competitive enough that I have no real issue with a win, loss, or a draw depending on your personal scoring preferences.
Good video! He will certainly be missed. I still watch the Trinidad fight from time to time. Definition of a schooling!
I had 4 years of Carter preceded by 9 or 10 months of Ford. But I don't remember seeing them on TV when they were POTUS.
Yeah, I tend to agree with the spirit of what you're saying here. The only thing that concerns me is Hopkins is nearly 52 - FIFTY-TWO!!!! I'm 40 now, and I'm sad to say that the difference between 38 and 40 sucks out loud. But then again, I'm not a professional athlete who treats his body like a temple the way Bernard does. I'm usually drinking beers and smoking joints whenever I watch boxing, and even when I'm not watching boxing.
