The first one I think I had 114-114 but if forced I'd probably lean Taylor as well, and I was referring to the 2nd match, as far as the Calzaghe match goes I had it 115-111, I think it might have been wider actually, but I'm a Calzaghe fanboy, so I am somewhat biased. I remember Reagan really well even though I was only 8 when he left office, and I didn't like him when I was a kid and I remember hating the first Bush, it was odd, my family had no idea why I disliked both of them so much since I was so young and had no idea what I was talking about, but it looks like my instincts were good even then. I didn't like Clinton very much either actually.
I'm not saying Bernard will straight up lose, he might still have enough to take Smith, but like Rummy said, he's almost 52, his age will eventually catch up to him, and after a brutal 12th round against Kovalev and 2 year layoff and coming back at almost 52 that's a recipe for disaster IMO. He's pushing his luck to the breaking point here.
I appreciate Bernard Hopkins for all of his accomplishments. But in the city of Detroit he will always be known as the guy who.. DUCKED JAMES TONEY!!!! He ducked him for 2 decades plus. Farewell B-Hop, Toney still wants his fade. This content is protected This content is protected The final fight should be between these two dinosaurs, but Joe Smith Jr. is no joke.
This content is protected I actually don't mind ward he is great. Hopkins is painfull to watch he hurts my eyes.
His style wasn't always that boring or ugly. It just got that way the older he got because he couldn't rely on speed and reflexes to win fights anymore. Go take a look at his beat down of Glen Johnson way back in '97 to see how beautiful his technique was when he was younger.
The president used to get on the television a couple of times a year for big events to address the nation. Now the President speaks to press almost every day like a reality tv star. Being telegenic is just part of the job now. Supposedly, that's how Reagan got elected.
All that talk about old man tactics reminds me of something. Have any of you read those Jason Bourne books? A friend of mine loves them and was telling me how it was different from the movies. By the third book Bourne is 20 years older. He's seeing punches coming that he can't get out of the way of, moving slower and with effort, getting hurt more in fights. Just made me think of how Bernard's or Ali's styles changed as they got older. FYI Roberto Duran of the Jorge Castro fight is not the Tazmanian devil of the Buchanan fight.
I would have loved to have seen Hopkins-Toney, but there was never really a proper opening for that fight to potentially flourish. Toney was already fighting north of middleweight before Hopkins had even challenged for a world title. By the time Hopkins had moved up to 175, Toney had already been competing at heavyweight for 3 or so years. I don't know that the fight ever truly made sense, although I seem to recall it being rumored and/or scheduled around the time Hopkins had been a light heavy for a few years - after the Pavlik fight and through maybe the Jones Jr rematch? 2008-2010, maybe?
Even when he got much older, he still had a few entertaining scraps. That was the exception rather than the rule in most cases, but with the right style match-up Hopkins could still bring the intensity.
Hopkins-Wright was surprisingly entertaining! I among others I'm sure, thought that was going to be a stinker.
