I bow to your superior boxing knowledge. Please list some examples. Or all of them. Please create an arithmetical expression that makes clear the ratio of ATGs who went and partied for 3 years, did some rehab and came back as consensus lineal champion(baddest man on the planet, right?) to those who made a consistent succesful effort to defend that which is held so dear.

Well yeah, it's just a historic claim, It doesn't mean much really.

When people mention Mayweather do you hear them say "5 time world champion" or "5 time lineal champion".

Did Mayweather win every lineal title at each weight? I don't think he did but it made no difference to his pulling power, him as a draw, him as a superstar.

I really do not understand what this is all about now, why it's so important to people now.

My guess is, it was suppose to add some sort of weight to Wilders claim he was the number 1 after he beat Fury (Well he was suppose to beat Fury)

Because most of this started Wilder fans trying to make this fight more than what it actually was, so they decided to add "lineal title" to the very lonely WBC title and try and pretend this was for all the marbles.

Oh and now Warren has started saying "lineal champion", "man who beat the man" "Number 1", well of course he will say that, he is promoting Fury and if they are negotiating that's all Fury has to negotiate with because he doesn't have any world title around his waist.

Can someone help me out here... (Im asking genuinely, not condescendingly)

Im not understanding how there is any debate or controversy as to who the lineal champion is.

Lineal has a definition. It has a specific meaning, and that meaning doesn't conform to whatever various boxing fans want it to mean or want to have as criteria.

Its literally 'this is the man that beat the man that beat the man'.

So I guess, outside of individuals trying to change that because they themselves are trying to tamper with it with other criteria, other than that, Im not understanding where the debate or controversy is coming from.

Good video, but really if there isn't some governing body that can make an official decision on this, then it's up for debate.

Shannon Briggs wasnt fighting a fighter who had been absent for so long, but fair enough.
If Fury had of had 2 more tune ups and in that time Joshua and Wilder had of fought to decide a winner, would you still have felt Fury was lineal champ?
I know lineal is a bit patchy but then The ring mag (which I dont take too much notice of) would likely have still had them (Joshua/Wilder) at 1 and 2 if Fury was still facing tune ups and would have likely declared a new lineal champ.
Would you be of a different opinion to them then?
