    What don't you get? Golovkin was physically slipping and out of his prime already when he fought Canelo. Look how slow he got. Abel just made him slip that much faster. So while age got to him, Abel's poor training style accelerated the physical decline by focusing on power and not speed+combination punching. Golovkin's skill also slipped under Abel. Age and poor training by Abel acted in synergy to worsen Golovkin.

    Now that he has a new trainer he can work on speed and bring back some of the fundamentals that were neglected by Abel. Keep in mind he already had all these fundamentals before he got with Abel. He can gain back some of what he lost but it will never be as good as he was in his prime. The key thing here is that this slipping version of Golovkin gave Canelo a very close fight in the rematch. If he even improves a little bit and improves his game plan he could edge Canelo of Canelo stays the same. But in no means is age not a significant factor here.
