O in recent times there have been few US HW's getting shots at a HW title; besides Wilder.

 

Before that, when he faced Usyk, who has he beat to get that chance ?

Or they will make them to face each other, so one of them will lose everything and never gets a chance to fight for a tittle, while average boxers like Dubois gets a chance by beating below average Trevor Bryan and Saved in Lerena fight to fight champions like Usyk ?

My data suggests that Eastern Europeans get much easier shots at a HW title. The Kilts, Usyk, Croatian, etc.

Be it a 2nd time or more. I'd say Foreman's was very special achievement-wise . Decade into later decades. That takes some doing....

 

Holyfield was a 4x champion who received another 4 oppurtunities to become a 5x HW champion which is my big gripe with him. He performed well in some of those losses as an old man but thats not the point the point is he shouldn't have gotten those shots. Holyfield got punished less for losses than any HW in history. Thats how he got this record.

The other main way to get that record is being .500 in title fights with the losses being close and when I think of that John Ruiz is the first HW to come to mind. He received 2 chances to become a 3x champion. 3 counting the Chagaev title eliminator. The point John Ruiz is the sort of fighter this record is built to elevate and with the passage of time will inevitably elevate.

Ali and Lennox are top 5 HWs all time but the reason they are 3x champs is because they lost to Frazier/Leon Spinks and McCall/Rahman respectively. Being the champ and losing against someone who they could beat in a rematch is what opened the door. If they hadn't lost those fights they wouldn't have those accolades. And thats my main problem with this honor. If this was the answer to a trivia question thats fine but this is arguably the sports most prestigious record. It shouldn't be.

 

I have zero interest in watching aj fight usyk for a 3rd time. I hope fury beats usyk and we get aj vs fury but I’m struggling to see how fury beats usyk in the rematch

 

Can't be mad at that point of view but I don't penalize guys for hanging around too long. I tend to look at their primes for my opinion on their careers. And I don't think youve got anything to worry about concerning Ruiz getting overrated later lol. We're in the era where you can watch all the fights and back check all the data. He'll stay his ass firmly where it's currently planted lol. When I 1st took interest into the sport you had to do research to get even a tidbit on guys who weren't mainstream. That's no longer the case thankfully. A historian's dream come true.

AJ’s fighting for one of Usyk’s old belts that was relieved from him, but outside of the ring.

If AJ beats Dubois and we see AJ-Usyk 3, or AJ-Fury, then that’s okay by me. And I like the fact that AJ is active.

But we really can’t celebrate the win as something historic.

We waited 25 years for an undisputed champion, only for them to lose one of the belts out of the ring, just a few months later.

In the case with the moron you replied to, Fury being 20-30 lbs overweight is just perfect. Like a true champion should be. And running from someone he slagged off as a MW and instead arguably losing to a boxing novice is just the way to go.

For those saying that HW champs who haven’t lost haven’t been tested, I would ask what they think of Usyk? Is there anyone on the planet who would say he hasn’t been tested at CW and HW?
