Nice objective analysis Rummy, I think Haney's boxing skills are top level and I pick him over Lomachenko at this point due to age and size. Can he capture the attention of American boxing fans as #1 pound for pound? I'd say no, his style is not conducive to entertaining most fans , though moving up and cleaning out the 140 division could enhance his chances . I'd say Jaron Ennis at 147 with his style has a better chance to seize the American mantle as the best but currently he's being frozen out at 147. As far as what's best for boxing in the U.S., a heavyweight champion is the quickest way to revive interest. Jared Anderson is on the horizon as a potential heavyweight threat but he's still not had his metal tested.
Hahaha. If Devin Haney is the future of American boxing, you've got some serious issues over there Rumspringa. I think Haney gets outboxed by Shakur Stevenson & is susceptible to getting pole-axed by Tank. He looks a bit chinny to me. The American media will go gaga for Devin if he beats Loma (I think he can win that one) but there are younger & bigger threats out there for him if he does. Doing a runner to Light Welter may dissipate those threats but if there's one thing I will give Haney credit for it's his apparent willingness to take tough fights that pose a genuine risk to his 'O'. Unlike another couple of Americans I can think of. I'd prefer to see Haney try to continue ruling the roost in a premium division like lightweight than move to Light Welter. Successful title defences against Loma, Stevenson & Tank is the quickest path to greatness. He wins all of those & he's not the future of American boxing, he's the present.
Maybe for a minute if he beats Loma but afterwards if he fights Shakur he gets beat and even up and coming guys like Keyshawn Davis, Richardson Hitchins and Frank Martin would have a great shot at beating him so at the long run i dont see him becoming the face of american boxing cause theres better fighters than him out there who would whoop IMO.
Of course it's possible that they may go on to do bigger and better things than Haney. But right now, Haney is the one who is seizing bigger opportunities.
I think Shakur is on another level, but I suspect I will be thinking about retirement by the time that fight happens. If they get it done before 30 I'll be very pleased.
Im not sure. I think Shakur is a more talented fighter and i think he would beat Haney if they fight.
