I agree with Joe, His ability to adapt and his changes of rhythm and footwork would be hard for Ward to deal with.

It would be close but Joe was a special fighter who could lay it on his opponent and dictate the pace. Ward hasn't fought anyone like that, I think Ward would lose on points in a great battle but just fall short.

Wards a great fighter who can dicate his own pace and stop his opponent form executing their game plan. But Calzaghe was great at making it into his kind of fight. Say what you want about Wards wins but Calzaghe was in a different league to anyone that Ward has faced. He is big and strong with super fast hands. He is tough and loves to get into a proper fight.

I think he would be able to get in there and mix it up and make Ward get into and proper fight. Loads of punches being landed but Calzaghe landing many more and coming out with a Kessler type decision.

Big fan of both but i am a real Calzaghe fan. Love his style and i think he is so under rated. But i am also really excited to see what Ward will be in a few years. How far can he go and how good will he become?

if only the super six could have happen a few years ago when Calzaghe was at the top. Winner fighting him. Now that would be big.

I don't hate or love Calzaghe, but I can't understand how anyone who has watched him throughout his entire career would actually enjoy watching him.His style was just appalling to watch.

The stinkers he was involved in against Starie,Thornberry,Jimenez,Salem and Ashira were some of the worst title fights of the last fifteen years or so.

I think Calzaghe would have beat Ward, would expect it to have been around even around the mid rounds, but Super Joe would pull away on the cards.

Ward isn't exciting though is he? Extremely talented, has all the moves but doesn't get you off your seat does he?

I would say I dont think you like him as you have only focused on the negative! I think you also know there was alot more to Calzaghe than the fights you mention.

Ward certinaly doesn't beat Joe. As good as he is, he has nothing for Joe. Joe is faster and fitter. Even if Ward poised a tough technical fight, you can rely on Joe to adapt.

If Ward trys roughing Joe up then he is gonna be eating speed and combos and movement and angles all night long.

Lets be honest Joe may or may not have beaten Ward, but he would have never fought him. A win against Bute is all Ward needs to surpass JC's legacy.

"Calzaghe is the best British fighter - probably one of the best I've ever seen" - Floyd Mayweather Jr on Joe C

Ward gassed a bit against Froch, so I think Joe closes the show stronger should they have fought and wins a decision by a few rounds. Calzaghe could adapt and beat Ward IMO.

The fact that Ward would be unable to discourage Calazaghe would be key in my opinion, if Ward cannot hurt him then i doubt Calzaghe's rhythem would be broken, that would be enough for Calzahe maybe to lose the earlier rounds but to take over the fight during the middle to latter rounds for a close but clear decision.

It would be a close fight. Ward might be the fastest guy Calzaghe would have fought though. Old Roy and Hopkins put Calzaghe down and Salem and Mitchell had him seriously hurt so there is a possibility that Ward could land a good shot that stuns Joe and puts him down, which would make all the difference on the scorecards. Otherwise, it's a hard fight to call but I don't think it's a stretch to say either would win on points. I don't see a KO but I also don't see a landslide for either guy.
