His chin is just as good as Margarito`s but he does get hit alot less than Margo. Joe has been cracked cleanly and he ALWAYS gets up. His recovery powers are excellent and more than likely a testament to his sound conditioning. You best believe his chin is great. The only man that would ever have stood a chance of KO`ing Joe at 68 would be a prime RJJ. I doubt anyone would be able to check Joes chin.

Earlier in his career as one poster has already said, Calzaghe had a macho attitude that if someone hurth him he would stand toe to toe, not back down and come back twice as aggressive. It always worked for him, since he has got older I think he has learned to be more more patient.
The aggressive never say die attitude is one of the reasons he has always been so good to watch, he puts it all on the line in every fight!

no, definitely not....look at the shots margarito walks through without so much as flinching, he's certainly no margarito....

he got dropped by hopkins 1-2, and hopkins doesn't even have heavy hands.....

Salem shot would have knocked out most fghters..Joes a rock just hope if he does get knocked down by Jones he will stay down for at least a 6 or 7 count, he gets up far to quickly..Joe to win by KO

Im one of Joes sternest critics and not a fan of his in the slightest but thats real. Saleem banged Joe right on the button and the guy shook it off and rose in less than a few seconds. The same happened when he fought Byron. Joe fundamentally is flawed but his chin is real.

The Mitchell one is a proper ko punch, smack on the side of the chin. I'm a Calzaghe fan but disagree with the people who said he can't be knocked out... hit anyone in the exact right spot with power and there's a chance...

I think the video shows someone with a lot of heart........How many times have you seen good fighters get hit with those types of shots and not get up,never recover, retreat and run the rest of the fight,or quit altogether, but then there are the exceptions like Joe come back and fight harder....The man has heart.....PErfect example is Rosario/Camacho.....after Camacho got ht like he did he ran not only the rest of the fight he rant for the rest of his life hahaha

it is a positive attribute but could be a negative also. if you just got starched with a perfect right and you are still a bit weak you do not want to be trading punch for punch. but if you back off you allow the fighter to come onto you and hit you even more.

How anyone can say any of these are "flash" knockdowns is beyond me. They are all hard shots to the head, Calzaghe falls as a direct result of the punch, onto his arse/back, and has to get up and show the ref he is steady before he can continue. By definition, none of these 3 are "flash".

It is testimony to Calzaghe's chin and durability that he shakes off the effects each time, but biased fanboys should not devalue this ability he has by insisting the KD's are "flash" when they are not.

A flash KD is a half-KD where a fighter's glove touches the canvas, or a knee, and the ref insists upon the count purely as adherence to the rules when really the fighter hit can continue immediately with no need for a break - hence the word "flash".

1min 40secs into this video, Hopkins v Tarver this is an actual "flash" knockdown.

If you get planked on your ass and have to climb back up then you cannot continue fighting immediately if the ref didn't intervene, so therefore not "flash".

    from boxrec

    Flash knockdown
Refers to when a boxer sustains a knockdown, but immediately gets back up on his feet, usually before the referee can begin his count (but the boxer still may be subject to a mandatory eight-count).

those 3 knockdowns are pretty borderline flash knockdowns. I don't think Calzaghe went passed the count of 2 or 3 in any of them. In all 3 cases, he got up immediately, which according to boxrec is the criteria for a flash knockdown..

Indeed, often the best form of defense is offense. That Mitchell fight is a good example, Byron saw blood and Calzaghe might have been put away had he not immediately lowered the boom.

In none of the three instances was Calzaghe up before the referee could begin his count, unlike the example I posted (Hopkins-Tarver). Without a shadow of a doubt, none of the three as flash knockdowns by definition. If you are off your feet and the referee counts, it is not a flash, simple as that. I'm not being obnoxious, but these knockdowns simply are not "flash". Look at the Tarver example.
