Calzaghe also ate a number of flush power shots from Robin Reid without even wobbling.

Compare Calzaghe's 3 knockdowns to Glass Jaw Roy's 3 knockdowns.

But Roy has a great right hand..lol He has a great uppercut and left hook to the temple. If Roy can handle the pace he has a great shot of putting Calzaghe on his ass once or twice. But I think Roy is to past it to finish Calzaghe. You got to be able to finish. Watching all these past fights I KNOW for damned sure James Toney at 168 prime for prime would of knocked Calzaghe out no question. Everything Calzaghe does is what JT feasted off of. He always lunges in chin in the air. James Toney would of cracked that big ass head.

Lefties are allways open to right hands,Joe allso has next to no defence when he trys to go forward,he carry his chin up in the air and flails, bad move against a master pot shotter like Jones. However his chin is solid, heart as big as a bucket too!

I'd forgotten how big the Salem shot was. the Mitchell fight was great. I still think it was stopped too soon - if Calzaghe could come back like that after being hurt, why not give Mitchell the opportunity to do so? Anyway, I love the way he just comes back swinging after being knocked down. Not usually a good idea but it worked well on this occasion.

Where did I say he was in danger of being stopped? As usual, Calzaghe maniacs diving in desperately to defend their hero against an attack that isn't even being made. I am well aware he was nowhere near being stopped - that is precisely why I never suggested he was. However, whether he was hurt or not has nothing to do with the fact that all three knockdowns were not by definition "flash" KDs. That was my only point.

However, IMO he was clearly hurt immediately after the Mitchell KD. It is testimony to Joe that he responded so brilliantly, it's not a criticism of him at all to acknowledge he was hurt. The Salem KD was a heavy one too, but Salem lacked the quality of Mitchell to force Calzaghe back immediately afterwards, and force him to fight Salem off him like he did with Mitchell.

Jones hits harder then all of those fighters at 175. Jones also has a better body punch then hopkins.

Calzaghes got an excellent chin.... Taken good shots from Reid, Kessler without even looking like going down.... and when he has been dropped by some big bombs (like Salems, which was flush on the chin) he got back up even though for the first few seconds he did look dazed.... He spoke about his knockdown (mitchell) on setanta recently....and he said it took afew seconds for his head to clear but then he was perfectly ok.... and he said he didn't know how to react as he knew mitchell would charge him, so he decided to just go toe-to-toe.

Having said that..... he was put down by B-Hop, yes he was off balance..... but now he's probably in with the fastest and biggest opponent he has ever faced. And RJJ still has accuracy and power which IMO could hurt Calzaghe.

He has got an excellent chin, not Absolute Iron, but no one punch is going to knock him out, and he has very good recuperative power.

RJJ is not going to KO him, just isnt happening. He would have to knock him down, knock him down again, and then just tag with a ton of power shots. It is just highly improbable. No fighter has ever come remotely close

It's funny, he was the least hurt by the Hopkins knockdown. Salem was a dirty, tough son of a *****. He's an Egyptian. Salem killed a man in the ring, Randie Carver, because of excessive head butting.

I can't stand the way Joe Calzaghe fights; that pitty-pattying inefficient style just ain't my thing.

That having been said, you have to be living in some small crater on the moon if you don't think he has a phenomenal chin. This is definately one aspect of the Calzaghe machine that is very consistent and reliable.

Note that Calzaghe fights a good portion of the time off-balance, at which time he is also quite easy to hit. Go back to the Kessler uppercuts in the middle rounds (on one occasion I remember, after an exchange of heavy swings in which Calzaghe came off the worse) for evidence of this. For a big puncher to catch him with a well-timed shot while he was clearly off-centre and yet still he didn't drop is truly a testemant to just how durable his beard is.

Of the 3 KD's in his career, it's clear the BM one was the worst. He was sufficiently dazed when he got up; and through sheer grit and determination he perservered.

Criticise him for his fighting abilities; but a world class jawline he has.
