(If you’re interested, Marquez had previously done two other demonstrations on Chavez’s habits and progress some time ago during the aftermath of a few key fights of his career. They’re translated here:

    ------
Announcer Dude (Jorge Eduardo Sanchez): Here we are in the Golpe A Golpe ring with world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, so he can explain technically what Chavez Jr. has done to improve fight by fight, and what he can do to win against Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez.

JMM: Yes. Logically, Jorge, the opponents are different. What I’ve noticed of Jr. is that he’s worked on his speed, working better at his range…his range is that of his long arms, he’s a very tall fighter for his weight, and he maintains distance well (jabs while stepping leftwards). And at the same time, he moves well, getting in through the guard of his opponent (advances while bobbing & weaving), connecting uppercuts and hooks to the body along with it, which he also does very well. He’s improved in terms of his speed, and I’ve also seen him improve in that he doesn’t go looking for an opponent wide open, straight in. Instead he goes in moving his waist, which is very good, and doesn’t expose himself. If I move straight in, you leave yourself open to get hit by your opponent, to get countered. If you throw a big right (throws right, eats left hook over it), they can counter you, and then you have no response. So moving the waist, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has done very well.

Sanchez: The mistake his opponents make is to exchange blow after blow with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. with their back against the ropes, Juan, because that brings out the best from Jr.

JMM: That’s right, that’s the mistake. And I think that with any fighter, being on the ropes opens up the opportunity for your opponent to connect. Even when you want to escape, I’m going to close off the exit and throw punches (corners and throws)*. So in this case, what Maravilla Martinez has to do is move, to not stay on the ropes. And what Julio Cesar Chavez has to do is close off the exits, but while moving his waist, never standing there open and straight up. So what he needs to do is come in with straight punches downstairs (lands right to the body), come upstairs (throws left hooks and combinations while moving rightwards to corner Sanchez), and not let Sergio Maravilla Martinez leave from the ropes.

Sanchez: The angle of the legs are going to be very important; there,
Maravilla is a master, no? His angles…you’ve faced southpaws before (smiles)

JMM: What Sergio Maravilla Martinez has to do, who’s a fighter that moves and waits for you to throw…on just a jab, he can counter you. If you throw a jab, he does this (slips to outside of jab, throws straight left): the moment that you throw, he counters (repeats stepping rightward while slipping jab and throwing straight left). So Jr. has to be very careful so as to not receive those shots.

Sanchez: He needs to be very well covered (mimicks peekaboo guard), moving his waist side to side, and throwing with potency.

JMM: That’s right. Even though Martinez will be moving his waist on him, he (Chavez) has to come in with that jab (jabs onto inside of Sanchez’s right hook), throw straights downstairs (throws), and come upstairs with combinations with speed to avoid getting hit with shots himself.

Sanchez: (Bell Rings) The Ring of Golpe A Golpe.

*(This little bit of the demonstration reminds me a lot of the tricks Bernard Hopkins was showing Rashad Evans in his locker in that video that circulated a while back. Hopkins encouraged closing off an angle towards one side, leaving an obvious escape towards the right, only to walk them into a shot on the other side; it seems Marquez recommends a similar offensive tactic with pressure & combinations finding the opponent as he tries to sidestep away.)

Maravilla is no Mayweather on the ropes so I'm sure that's a main point his corner will advice to stay away from.
He will be cornered for sure though. Even little bits here and there. He will take damage downstairs and might even get caught upstairs when Jr. switches it up. Those are the dangerous moments for Sergio. Not so much the body assault Jr. is known for, but the unexpected blows to the jaw once cornered.
I'd say that would happen in the middle rounds though. Jr.'s window of opportunity will be somewhere in the 4th-8th rounds.
If Jr. does not land the proper shots and takes control of the fight with a good momentum going into the later rounds, then that's a wrap for him.

    Maravilla TKO 9-11th :good

Martinez moves a lot in the ring. He will not allow Chavez Jr. to catch him easily. When Chavez Jr. is chasing him around and trying to land his punches, Martinez will throw his left hook or straight left at Chavez's chin. It's gonna be the same big shot as Martinez sent Williams to kiss the canvas in round 2.

Chavez's chin will be tested this time to see how great or how weak it is. If he can still stand up after taking that big shot, then I'll take my hat off to him.

True, but you can bet the farm that the ring is going to be really small.
Jr. is going to be given every advantage possible in this one.

I wouldn't even be surprised to see a strong, blinding spotlight mounted in the ceiling, which goes on every time Maravilla is facing that direction, and off when Jr is facing it.

They'll probably even make sure the ring is situated so that Sergio's corner is right over a heating vent, while Jr gets an air conditioning duct.

Anyone else think Marquez should be a expert analyst when he retires?
I love the way he visualises and explains things + he almost always gives great insights.

The man is a walking textbook on how to throw correct punches in combination as well.

    Thanks, Bogotazo :good

Sounds like he's encouraging Julio to do some of the things he [Juan] was doing against Pacquiao in the 3rd fight. Have combinations ready (upstairs and downstairs) for when Martinez looks to creep shots in.

And that's where I think Julio will fall short. He won't be able to do that. I can see him plodding forward and throwing single jabs, whilst not being able to set his feet properly to throw/land any decent combos.

Edit: Unless Martinez tires in the later rounds ^^

I always smile when I see one of Bogo's translation threads on the main general page, and I'm never disappointed.
I say it all the time but it's well deserved in this man's case,so another big thanks Bogo.
How do the majority of Mexican-Americans feel about Jnr Bogo?

Don't really know, I'm not Mexican and live in NY :conf

Though the last time I talked boxing to a Mexican costumer at work over the summer, I mentioned Morales, Barrera, etc., he said "Marquez is old, all we have now is (Chavez's) son." No mention of Canelo at all, which surprised me. So I suppose he's got a fair amount of support.

Its a shame that people show more interest to Canelo and Jr...****in' Canelo isn;t even the best undefeated boxer from Jalisco! That would be Abner Mares, who most of my mexican buddies don't even know.

:good Amen to that! Just look at the quality of opposition Mares has faced compared to Canelo's opposition.
