By cutting off the exits leftwards and forcing Martinez to circle to the right, he can walk Sergio right into the right hand. People have often pointed out Martinez's awkward balance when forced in that direction, particularly that article by Springs Toledo that highlighted Martinez's lead foot too far inward...Martinez needs to avoid getting pigeonholed and control the center. Sergio's sparring looked like he was working a lot on the inside, so maybe that's how he plans to avoid being backed straight up and clocked like he was against Pavlik and Macklin. Interestingly enough, Sr. also said he thought Martinez was dangerous when you followed him, but not when you stayed in the center of the ring.
