Good video and recap Rummy. And spot on in your assessment on Kovalev's beautiful control of distance and why most will still play hell trying to get inside and will probably be dropped several times or KO'd if they attempt it. It's a pity that you, I and IB, and a few others are about the only ones who seem to process that.

Great recap. I agree with pretty much all of it. Glad to see another guy that appreciates that Kovalev is a great boxer and not just some guy with a punch.

I wonder if Kovalev will drop the IBA belt.

I guess you guys think a lot more of Shabranskyy than I do. He was tailor made and that sloppy defense is exactly what a guy like Kovalev wants.

Great video rummy but I believe Gvozdyk is great boxing at range to but remain’s to be seen if he’s a master at it like kov.

Great recap Rummy although you failed to mention that Shabranksy could of beat SK had he hit him in the balls repeatedy, used excessive holding, head butts and having Ref and judges onside?
Ok I digress but having looked at the rules it does say in Queensbury rules that excessive holding is against the rules and I’m still of the opinion that all things equal in a regular boxing match that SK would still win.
Anyone who maintains Ward is a great boxer I wouldn’t disagree as he always shows his boxing skills in the tune up fights,Barrera fight he never held or fought dirty but unfortunately the powers that be obviously had a deal going with Ward where they had a Ref who’d turn the other way to his holding for two minutes of each round and apparently give consent to someone trying to KO someone by repeatedly hitting his opponents testicles, will we ever see anything like this again in a boxing ring,I think not.

Has there ever been another boxer with so many contentious fights without ever getting points deducted,Boxing will not miss his like I’m sad to say.

Congrats to Kovalev who should not of lost those belts to begin with.

Always respected Krusher and feel silly that I was worried about his return after the two epic fights with Ward.
The guy not only can control range but seldom does he load up and waste energy with missed punches.
I don't see anybody stopping him at 175
Maybe Tony B will be dumb enough to call him out now that David is injured. That would be fun for a few rounds
    Nice job Rummy

Kovalev is at his best working from medium-long range where his power is at its most devastating and basically triggering his opponent's fight or flight response (their options are literally twofold: evasive action, whether straight backward or lateral - or come forward to smother Kovalev and/or take advantage of his relatively less refined infighting skills) and then nailing them on the way in. He full well knows this, and you can tell how acutely he is aware of that fact by the knowing, self-deprecating grin he flashed when he suffered an embarrassing flash knockdown shortly after the first bell courtesy of the feather-fists of Mr. Blake Caparello - there were other factors, like Il Capo having that long gangly reach and timing his combo just right, and being a southpaw, and Kovalev's feet being at just the wrong configuration at that moment - but the primary causal factor was his blunder in coming forward too far, too fast and surrendering the distance himself. It was somebody he thought in the heat of the moment he could get away with doing that against, but he relearned the error of his ways and it was plain on his face. After that he stuck to his forte and did a # on poor Blake to make him pay for his momentary glory.

Sergey is a great boxer. We often forget that he OUTBOXED Ward in both fights. His jab owned Ward. Like IB said, his medium-long range game is great (where his power is a difference maker). Him dropping Bernard when Benard was rushing in was dope.

Good stuff as always sir Rum

Kovalev has some truly interesting match ups for him and his team to entertain and I believe he can come out on top versus the lot. Bivol, Gvozdyk, Artur, Adonis, Barrera even Jack can be thrown in the mix since he’s shown the ability to adjust and conquer adversity.

As much as I respect Ward and value his contributions to the sport his exodus will help these guys mix it up. Regardless of anyone’s opinion pertaining to Wards style he has proven (at the moment) he’s head and shoulders above the aforementioned in the subjects of mental fortitude, strategic execution and effective adjustments....meaning he would be avoided and the belts held hostage.

The future looks bright for 175 I think the next 18 months will be eventful and explosive.

Yep, hes the king of long range all day. He looked fast as **** the other night too. I'm starting to think he needed a wake up call and the debateable loss will do him good ! Like he seems fresher or something. Nice to see him happy. He should've got rid of his last team a lot sooner

Ward realized the traditional approach wasn’t going to win him the fights versus Kovalev. The paradox I was dealing with especially during the second fight was watching Kovalev win rounds and outboxing Ward with the understanding that Ward was getting in the more impactful work. Ward sacrificed rounds to absorb knowledge and his bodywork paid dividends, also while I had Kovalev up by one round at the time of the stoppage I also did not like Kovalevs noticeable stamina issues and felt if he didn’t dig deep into his soul he was eventually going to be overwhelmed mentally and physically.

It’s unfortunate that some on this site have convinced themselves that the catalyst for the Loss was bordering low blows and paid off refs.

    ;)

I firmly believe one can afford both Andre Ward and Wladimir Klitschko every shred of their due respect and their much deserved ATG kudos while still acknowledging that each man's respective division is 1,000x better off with them gone.
