My favourite fighter of all time. Was so proud of him when he was around and although it's a shame the heavyweight division doesn't have him anymore, I'm still happy to watch all of his old fights and live the memories again instead of watching today's heavyweights go at it. The 'defeated everyman he's faced' tag is such a powerful one too. Yeah sure he lost two big fights. But both of them he avenged with stunning knockouts. Can't asked for much more than that.

Is Lewis more popular in now than he was throughout his career? Seems so. Great fighter.

He's barely been retired 10 years, recent enough memory for people to remember just how good he was.

Me and bro talk about this all the time! It's crazy ****, if he were around nowadays he'd be the most exciting heavy on the planet. He really was unjustly labeled as boring. I always found him exciting and got in heated arguments with dumb casuals claiming prime Tyson would own him with ease.

Watched all of his fights, and been watching boxing all my life (I'm 49), he's as good as any of them. I understand why he was labeled boring because he sometimes fought cautious (Tua), but when he was in seek and destroy mode, there was nobody better and the big difference between Tyson and himself, was that Tyson only had one mode (which was seek and destroy) but Lewis had varity, he could win in many different ways from outboxing someone (Tua) to out blasting them (Ruddock, Golota, Briggs), to making it a dog fight (Vitali) he had the skills to do what was necessary to win, and he fought like the big man he was. And whether people realize it or not, his amateur background provided him with a great foundation to be one of the best pro's ever. (same thing can be said about Wlad, Ali, Foreman, Frazier) it's the foundation of champions.

Btw. Holmes in his prime was also as good as most ATG's. Ali's magnetic personally dimished his accomplishments in the eyes of the public.
