Oh, I don't doubt that Rigo is good enough to lower Lomachenko's output. But I think Lomachenko is better (and bigger) than Donaire.

Thanks. And name pronunciation has never been my strong point!

I have heard it pronounced the way you wrote it. I have also heard it pronounced differently. The shame in all of this is, I had it down, until one day Rigo suddenly told the HBO commentating team that they had it wrong for years.

Lomachenko is probably gonna fight on the front foot. That's a sylistic advantage for Rigo and will exagerrate his reach advantage.

Good assessment @Rumsfeld and I agree, I'll see if I can post my more detailed spot on breakdown... that I can bump and gloat about after the fight, like with the Walters match, a little later tonight.:D

That's one of the interesting things about this match-up. In theory what you're saying makes sense, and in practice that could become a reality.

As I recall, everyone for years was saying Rig-IN-dee-OWW. And I had thought (perhaps incorrectly) that I've since heard it pronounced Ri-GONE-dee-OWW. I'm probably wrong. I think @Max Thunder is actually correct. I've heard it pronounced that way (or similarly) quite a few times. And I think that's how Buffer says it. Buffer is a consummate professional, so I'm sure whatever he's saying is correct, so that's what I probably should have done. But I won't lie - I have fun saying it the way I say it.

Good video! Agreed on pretty everything you said. It's going to be a great fight regardless of the age and size discrepancy. Two of the most talented amateurs ever squaring off - what a treat! Something I feel some are overlooking is Rigondeaux's occasional defensive lapses(he's usually superb) but that's what will probably do him in here. Might even have a slight lead going into the middle rounds before enjoying his work a bit too much and getting caught with something big.

5:56-6:00  You sounded a bit off there tonally man! Bad cold?

I'm just not sold on that chin holding up at 37 at SFW! Still a great win over a generational talent but when u have the variety & accuracy of Lomachenko painting his picture in front of you its going to get nailed at some point! Small elusive guy, evasive, could be tricky but he'll get tagged!

Maybe in Boston. But in Cuba it's pronounced just like it's spelled: "Ree-GOND-day-ow". With the "GO" like the opposite of "stop", "day" as in the opposite of "night", and the "ow" like in Chicken Chow Mein.

Its pronounced Ri - Gon - Doe (with a haughty French accent), he's of Haitian descent, there's a ton of Haitians in Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo, his name is French, and that's how its pronounced in French, case closed.:deal:

Incredible fight ruined by a massive weight advantage.

I don't care that Rigo gave the okay. He's old, unpopular, and desperately needs fights.

Pretty sure I've specifically read he uses some Cuban/Spanish pronunciation, not the French.

Although I always use the French pronunciation in my head.

Well, he's wrong, its a French name, there is no right Spanish pronunciation.:D

That's like all the goofballs from Misssouri who call it Missoura, or all the morons from Nevada calling it Nevadha.

Rig - as in a "big rig" truck or a dabbing piece "rig"
On - as in, "lights on, lights off; wax on, wax off"
Dough - as in pizza dough

That's how I say it and I'm not going to change. Nobody cares how to pronounce my last name and I don't correct them.

Besides, I used to say Agbeko Ag-beak-O because I thought it was funner and cooler and never really changed it up. "Bro, you're pronouncing the name wrong! Your opinion is invalid!" said nobody ever.
