We don't always agree (which is a good thing, IMO) but you're one of the best posters here (No Homo). Agreed good post.

 

He may have been a minute away from being stopped but for the last 20 years fights have been 12 3 minute rounds and Sergio won 11 of those rounds and lost the last round big but rounds are 3 minutes long not 4 so he won. Chavez knew how long the fight was going to be going into the fight, so if he couldn't do it within that time then it doesn't matter what he could have done with more time.

He was knocked down Once. The second time was a throw down after being put in a head-lock.



If you didn't notice, the both of them fought on the inside as well during the fight and Sergio was coming out on top.

And if you didn't notice, after being knocked down, Chavez landed some bombs on a tired and hurt Sergio but couldn't finish him off because Sergio still made Chavez miss with some of those punches...as well as his own ability to throw back.

All through the fight, Chavez would try to get off and even start something but it was Sergio who would come right back and put his foot down and whoop Chavez by imposing his "WILL."

Your "CHIN," your ability to take a punch anywhere, tends to drop when you are exhausted as well among other variables that cause knock-downs.

However, I still wonder about nerves on Chavez's side even though the style and ability of Sergio just looked like he was on another level entirely.

I am a big Martinez fan, but to get caught like that from a plodding hypejob after dismantling him took the shine off the win a bit. And now he has to go through the inconvenience of a rematch, which means we will be denied a proper MW fight.

 

Amazing how Martinez continued to take flush bombs from Jr. after being dropped and fought back. Chavez still had power in that round, he only threw about a third of what Sergio threw in the fight. So I feel Jr. had more in the tank than Sergio in that last round, but then again taken as much leather as he did has to take a lot out of you as well.

Credit has to be given to both fighters!

you obviously did not understand team chavez and their gameplan in which they just ran out of time.

this "proper MW fight" almost ended up in a MW getting ktfo.

for those that dont understand boxing if roach and sr. decide on a rematch after breaking down the film then they see something in the first fight that they think they can adjust to in the second fight. and there is nothing that SM can do differently in the second fight other than duplicate his 110 percent effort.

jr can take sergios best and you cant say the same about martinez.

 

Martinez has incredible mental strenght. Fighting with a LHW fighter in that manner is something truly G !
I think that knock down happened mostly because Martinez forced a K.O closing the distance and besides that fightin'/ whooping a LHW 11 rounds must be exhausting as hell !

:happy...the fact that my video feed cut out just before the KD made the round that much more suspenseful.....all i could hear was the crowd roaring and roy jones "ooohh, ooohh!" haha

 

serg wont quit. jr almost had him but he survived the round and keep fighting

 

i actually made money on the fight as i middled it with my mexican book(caliente) at sm-110 to -120 and matchbook at jr. +190 so there is no reason for me to "get over it."

sergio tore ligaments in his knee, had eight stitches and broke his hand.

it appears that sm is going to need a lot of recuperation time to "get over it."

and age had nothing to do with this fight. sm couldnt have fought any better five years ago nor can he fight any better in the rematch than he did saturday night.

you cant say the same about julio caesar chavez jr.

 

Martinez heart is what kept him up, his heart is why he's P4P, his chin is crackable and teetering on the level of China imo

His chin is simply average, and with his hands down style he is susceptible of getting dropped by punches that he doesn't see or catch him off guard

 

Great Round....Martinez was really hurt but his conditioning is incredible. Surprised he didn't go down from one of those hooks that he ate after getting up. Jr had a lot of problems with cutting off the ring and being able to get on the inside long enough to bang away at the body. The wheels of sergio are great. He knows how to circle and pot shot as good as anyone. The constant pot shots scrambled Chavez Jr. and caused him to have to re-set..over and over again. he never really was able to find his rhythm and Martinez made it his fight!
