Great film clip....I'm always amazed at how little head movement Baer had...looked like he wanted to get hit. And stood straight upright. Dude could take a punch, though.
Beer had a fantastic chin....but he could barely duck a punch...some bigger guys are not quick enough to slip very well so they just block...what a puncher he was...Braddock said if he got mad he could kill you literally and luckily he rarely did
What a weird bout. It's not on boxrec and I looked it up in several news archives. A four round bout that Levinsky could only win by KO, and then would be recognized by Illinois as the "unofficial heavy champ" but could not win the championship via decision. This was part of a barnstorming revue of Max with his then 19 year old brother, Buddy. One would assume they were there to give the crowd 4 rounds of entertainment of the boxing fashion. But there was mention in the next day articles of bad blood, of disparaging remarks made by Levinsky concerning Max's boxing abilities. Max refused to shake hands at the beginning of the bout. And on this film, Max walks to his prone opponent and seems to have a few words for him as he lay under the black lights. The lesson here is... Don't **** off Max.
