Marciano was VERY "loose" in bending the waist, and it was one of the reasons he was hard to hit. He'd turn his lack of height into an advantage. Thing is, a guy like Tyson or Dempsey was quicker with it, but where Marciano exceeded was in his consistency. By the 15th, he'd still be from high to ducking low as much as in the 1st, while the latter two slowed down significantly after the 5th..... which is the reason that Tyson got stopped in every loss despite a great chin, and that Dempsey got beat up so bad by Tunney despite those being only 10 round bouts.
Being inactive for 3 years might have had something to do with Dempsey's lack of success against Tunney ,dont you think?
Rocky developed a ducking method, that turned into a hook after he ducked under the blow and rolled his hips.
Of course they are, Do you rember when Taylor beat Pavlik and retain his middleweight title?? And of couse the fight a few nights ago when Taylor rip the title from Froch.
Oh how right the "Greatest" was on that one!! Just remember how terrified Vitali Klitschko was against Sam Peter...
I read the same thing but that was not his only bag, Rocky had them custom made and remember every one else was hitting 100- 150 lb bags
There really was not a lot of LARD ass heavys back then (big ass and stomach ( like Peter and Chambers) there arms look normal but they have the torso of a whale...same with Toney...The best heavys of the day were Moore who beat the over 200 lbers Bob Baker and Nino Valdez among others, Charles who Ko'd Coley Wallace . Harold Johnson who was a great small man...Even 174lb Bob Satterfeild owned Nino Valdez and Bob Baker and Big Cat Williams....these men were all pretty ripped and well conditioned....as far as Black Marciano fought The Best of the Black Heavys and he fought black contenders 4 out of 6 defences but in addition fought his # 1 contender 5 out of 6 times...only fighting # 2 ranked Don Cockell, I guess he wanted to give a white guy a chance to catch an ass whopping...Ali may have said White guys were afraid of blacks but I think he knew first hand Marciano feared no color or man...and there were many great fighters of every color that would laugh at your Childish ignorance
Being inactive AND the fact that Tunney was very, very prepared and motivated to win. It may not have mattered had Tunney not been so focused and disciplined a boxer.
