I'd be intrigued to see a Pavlik Martinez fight. I don't think Pavlik cuts off the ring as well as Margarito does. His footspeed isn't all that great imo. I think it'd be a close one with Pavlik squeaking a decision.

Well, Rockgloves sports one of the worst accuracy levels known to boxing. So that, along with Rockgloves' slow start in the fight, made it possible.

Lol, look at how young those ****ers are.

You can't use this as an example of anything. It was so damn long ago, and Martinez is clearly much better than he was then.

If they fought now at 154, Sergio would dismantle him.

Sergio looks alot better now, but I would still love to see this fight. I wonder how he would deal with the pressure at this point? Or would he move for 12 rounds and coast to an easy UD? Regardless I would like to see this fight more than Pavlik Vs Martinez.

lol at Margarito getting no credit for his wins....

People love to call him a bum, but the guy fought

    Cotto
    Williams
    Martinez
    Cintron x2
    Clottey

and beat all of them except one, but some people still think he was some sort of bum or journeyman. Hey... im all for calling the guy a cheat, and all his wins are suspect, i just find it interesting how one loss and scandal later, hes nothing anymore, and all these guys would beat him in a rematch (lol... hell i remember before the cintron rematch how many people thought cintron would win in a rematch)

But i suppose that goes with the territory surrounding the margarito scandal.....

Martinez struggled for a while at 147 , although only losing to Margarito, moving up to 154 helped him mentally and physically, increasing the speed , but also strength.

Hey, Manny Pacquiao was knocked out, too. Twice! Let's post those for the three people who haven't seen it...

Nah, good thread - it's interesting to see how far SGM has progressed. Margarito, for his part, never really evolved from there - aside from looking physically older and hairier he's the same exact man in the ring.

It's funny - at about 2:03 Sergio flashes a glimpse of the "anchor arms" pose that eventually came to serve as his signature defensive/counterpunching lure. It didn't work out so well for him at the time...still hadn't got the kinks out of it yet. :yep

He was suspended for a year. Capetillo ADMITTED to cheating. Margarito claims he never knew. Yes, he is proven to have cheated. Margarito is a known cheater.

All signs point to Margarito having loaded his gloves in all of his fights. For instance, why would he just start loading them against a faded Mosley but not against the young lions in Cotto and Williams? Not a chance. If he had to rematch these people without loaded gloves, it is fair to suggest he may not get the wins, despite already having lost to Williams as it is.

It was a long time ago, I wouldnt read too much into it because it doesnt have much to do with who would beat who in 2010

In 2010, at 154, against Sergio Gabriel Martinez, the unknockoutable Margarito suffers his second consecutive knockout loss. :nod
