Richard, he was beating AA right until that moment, I agree that he was on an acting mode, but you don't hit your opp. when he is on the mat, you get DQ for that.
It doesnt matter if a punch landed or not, you cannot hit an opponent when he was down. AA needed to be DQ'd fair call.
If he was acting he has the best chin ever and amazing powers of recovery. To take a flush power shot from a big puncher while not grounded so your head takes the full force of the blow, which swivels your head right round so it almost makes contact with your shoulder and then still be able to react instantly and make a conscious decision to pull a fast one to win the fight is amazing. (note: sarcasm)
what's even more remarkable was his clairvoyance and general wherewithal to know in advance that the ref, who had botched a number of calls already in the fight, would make the right call in this instance. That was remarkable foresight. And then the ability to convulse his legs like that was downright uncanny. He must have planned for this to happen and practiced the leg twitching bit. After all, even great actors require a great deal of preparation to pull off great performances. Let me be blunt. The people claiming AD "faked" this are staggeringly stupid and gullible.
Not clairvoyance but a brilliant strategy involving getting an unasailable lead on the scorecards, then slipping over on purpose then allowing opponent his opponent to knock him the **** out, then a little rehearsed leg twitch, voila instant win. It's Ali's "rope a dope" taken to the next level the "slip a dope". Andre Ward is a boxing genius, take my word we'll see this happen in more fights now. Guy is winning fight then gets to go home early by letting him self get hit flush while on the canvas. :yep
As I've been saying, Holyfield use the bite-my-ear off strategy in a similar way. Totally premeditated DQ-baiting fighters, these are, Holyfield and Dirrell. For those unaware, Holyfield entered the Tysaon fight with a papier-mache ear that he dared Tyson to bite into in order to get the DQ.
Dirrell spends so much time on the canvas that this was bound to happen sooner or later. It was a legitimate DQ however though I don't think Abraham did it intentionally out of frustration as accused by the biased Showtime commentators. A couple of other observations of this fight; Dirrell has a better chin than he is given credit for. Dirrell was clearly knocked down when it was ruled a slip. The ref sucked. Abraham needs to stop taking the first few rounds off, what does he gain from giving the early rounds away like that?
1.AA should have been DQ'd whether Dirrell was hurt or not. 2.I believe Dirrell was acting to get a time break/get points deducted from AA to work in his favor. It just happened to work out it was a DQ.
Direll was so hurt by the dirty punch from that Nazi, he tought he had lost the fight and that is why he was crying. His corner kept tellling him he had actually won the fight. He at first thought he was legally knocked out.
