For better or worse, here's my worthless 2 cents on all six matches. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFPT74CmCQg [yt]rFPT74CmCQg[/yt]
I watched the whole thing, and I agree with your scoring in all except the Whitaker fight; and I agree with your general assessment of de la Hoya. The operative thing is that he actually fought most big names out there when they were at or near prime - something that cannot be said about, for instance, Mayweather.
Another excellent video Rummy. I pretty much agree with everything you said. I don't know why, but for some reason in terms of the comp they fought, I often compare ODL to Holyfield. Win or lose, both fought pretty everybody there was to fight, when it mattered most. And I still think a prime ODL against a prime Mayweather would have been a very close fight.
Curiously, how did you have the Whitaker fight? I thought that one had more difficult rounds to score than any of the other 5 when I reviewed them again last week. Some really close ones that were tricky scoring. And agreed on Floyd - not necessarily saying this was through any fault of his, but the bigger names on his resume (Oscar, Shane, Pac) were all further removed from their best days than most of the high level names on Oscar's resume.
Thanks Vanboxing, and I agree with the Holyfield-Oscar comparison and remember a lot of people making those type of similarities, especially in the late 90s/early 00s when I started becoming more active on boxing forums.
I used to think that, and these days I'm not quite as sure. But I'd have always loved to have seen a welterweight Floyd at his best vs the 147 pound versions of Oscar and Shane from when they squared off in 2000.
