Coinciding with the "biggest HW flops" thread, here's video of Thad Spencer's big upset win over Terrell in the first round of the WBA HW tourney: [yt]pt06oZszArg[/yt] An interesting and entertaining fight with a few surprises. The key to the fight is that Spencer's quick right hand and inside combination punching foiled Terrell's attempts to smother him at close quarters. With this win, Spencer skyrocketed to fame and critical acclaim, and became the hot favorite to win the tourney. Incredibly, he never won another fight in his career. In his very next fight, against Jerry Quarry, he was made to look like a statue and picked apart for 12 rounds. He then went off to England, where he was stopped in a couple of fights, and when he returned he was used as quick fodder for up-and-coming Mac Foster, after which he just faded away.
I think this is essential viewing to fully appreciate the context in which Jerry Quarry took Spencer apart. I thought Terrell looked a lot better here than he did earlier in the year with that injured eye against Ali.
