Great video as always Rummy Excellent work
I was around in those days & saw a lot of it happen first hand. Had Newman gone through with the agreed deciding fight instead of blatantly renaging on the deal that was the one time Bowe had a chance. Bowe deserved the win over Vander BUT the Lewis demolition of Ruddock put the fear of Hades in Newman & Bowe. Bowe & Nwman were guests of honor at a Black Tie fundraiser I was there with Quincy Taylor. Newman said " would you like to meet the HW champ"? Id had a few beers by then & smartassed " Is Lennox Lewis here too then because Bowe isn't the HW champ till he beats Lennox " Bowe just grunted & walked away. Newman then said " Why risk everything against Lewis when people will pay to see Dokes & Ferguson with very little risk" ? I replied " In that case you must not think Bowe can beat Lennox so he's not the real champ. Newman smirked as he held up the belts " But we have these don't we" That said it all for me
Bowe just self imploded from then on. To me Lennox was the best HW champ since Ali

Bruno had a better jab than Lewis. Bowe had a better jab than Bruno.

The man simply doesn't know how to throw a jab. - Foreman when commenting on the Phil Jackson fight.

Why are you still in this thread ? You never even seen his fights :patsch

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of Lewis either. I'm one of those sad guys that truly believe that Vitali could have beaten him even prime for prime. But, TKO6

Anyway, Bowe is not on Lewis' level. He just didn't have the focus to be a great champion. He was also way too hittable to bet on against the 250lb big guns. I will give Bowe this, however, he did have huge heart. Maybe too much for his own good, in the end.

IMO, Lewis was always the better fighter between the two.

My point was that Coetzer was hitting him.

And there's a WORLD of difference between getting hit by Coetzer and getting hit by Lewis.

So before Bowe fought Dokes , Newman knew Jesse Ferguson would score a massive upset over Ray Mercer to become Bowe's mandatory challenger ??

Think Lewis would have beaten Bowe, also feel it was a bit of a duck.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to watch. Hope you enjoyed the video even if you didn't agree with my take of things.

As for the on-going Lewis-Bowe discussion, I don't have anything to add really that I didn't already touch on in the video.

But all these years later, it's still a fight that fascinates me.

Not even a comparable situation though Robney.

Bowe would have earned no less than a 70% split of what would very likely have been a solid PPV fight nearing 400K buys.
By far tripling his best payday vs Holyfield.

Same goes for Lewis at the 30%....career high payday and an opening into the American audience in a potentially huge way.

As for the GGG v Canelo "talks"......fair to say it would be a "FLOP" at 700K buys, so let's just assume the buys were as high as 900K, not totally unreasonable since Canelo v Cotto did close to that, and this would be a GENUINE MW title fight vs 2 top 5, consensus, p4p fighters, and both considered near prime, where most agreed Cotto was slightly past it, but bought in on the Freddy changes, and the slight speed advantage he'd have vs Canelo. Add the PR v Mexico scenario, and the past prime Cotto suddenly seems an after thought.

So, for the sake of argument, GGG is WIDELY considered a lock for the HOF, arguably a top p4p ATG, and potentially, the GOAT at MW.
He's doing huge #s on premium cable, vs the Wades of the division....the who's???? Yeah, the Wades, the Monroes, the Proxas.....
Canelo.....he can do 500K vs the chinniest 147lb contender, who hadnt beaten a genuine contender since Madaina, almost 5 yrs ago.....

So.....assuming Canelo v GGG does 900K buys, thats roughly 25 million, of which K2 was asking for a FLAT 5 million, and only insisting on 30% of the gate, which would likely be close to 12 million if held at Cowboys stadium as Jerry Jones suggested.

Add another 5 mil in international rights, merchandising revenues etc.

So, assuming those figures are close.....just close.....that's GGG asking for about 9.5 million, while leaving the Golden Goose, or Duck I should say, the rest of roughly 42 million bucks.

    42-9=31. Million that is.

Thats a 74/26 split......IF.....IF....it only does 900K, which most pundits believe 1 mil would be a more likely final figure.

That's not politics.......that's a duck if I ever saw one. At least Team Bowe actually made a couple early offers prior to the bid.

GBP should have been ACTIVELY negotiating with K2 prior to the deadline.

Instead, they were secretly begging Manny to come back for one last hoorah, and praying to their god, Floyd Mayweather to take their diamond and lineal title at 154.1.:roll::roll:
