Of course Lennox was holding back, Oliver was not throwing anything back What did you want Lennox to do seriously hurt him ?? McCall proved he was not fit to fight, That was on his corner for letting him fight at all

Lewis was hitting him clean and never once troubled McCall.

Lewis was holding back because he still had memories of he being stopped, throughout the build up to the fight Lewis refused to make eye contact with McCall.

Facts remain McCall beat a better Lewis than Lewis did McCall

The cut opened ILLEGALLY ?? PLEASE tell us how or when. That is LUDICROUS!!!
Lennox retired for good Yes he had some fantastic offers to come back but stayed true to his word
Anyway if he'd accepted any offer to return he would never have made it to the ring,
His lovely wife Violet would have beat the hell out of him. LOL Just kidding

Kirk was a friend of mine tne whole time he was in Texas. Curtis Cokes trained both Kirk and Ike Ibeacuchi at the time at his Home of Champions gym in Dallas or the BMI gym in Ft Worth Texas. Both were potential champions. Kirk eventually got a shot at John Ruiz WBA title but was blatantly robbed of victory by the infamous Joe Cortez & the Oscar worthy acting of Ruiz. Kirk had worked his ass off training for that fight & losing that way took his heart. He was never the same fighter again
The real Kirk Johnson kicked Ruiz ass & would have given Vitali & Lennox all they could handle, but that was just a shell of Kirk that fought Vitali purely for the paycheck
Acrually there was a rumor going round at the time that Vitali paid Kirk to drop out against Lennox & promised him first shot at him if he beat Lennox LOL. Good story no truth to it though

Good review. Such and the rematch never happened

I think most realize that Lewis doubted his ability to win a rematch that's why he svoided facing this monster again and chose to retire on a high note

He was holding and hitting Vitali illegally for the entire fight, his left arm around his neck repeatedly without any sanction, but when you have a ref the size of Hayden Panettierre trying to separate two giants what do you expect.

The fight actually brought me off my feet off the couch a couple of times. Remember thinking that it had a chance to be one of the greatest fights in heavyweight history before the stoppage. Lewis looked to be getting to Vitaly in the 6th but looked so gassed it is hard to say if he could have finished him. Vitaly show good stamina in later fights so he might have been able to weather the storm and finish Lewis. I guess we will never know:aaaaa:

I've always thought Lewis lost his drive after he beat Tyson, that he convinced himself he was so much better than everyone else that he wouldn't even have to train properly to stay on top for the next few years and get a few more big paydays out of the sport before retiring.

Vitali was a wake-up call which reminded him that there were younger, hungrier fighters out there who could challenge him and could potentially beat him if he didn't turn up at his best, and if he didn't have it in him anymore to train and prepare himself to be at his best then it was a good thing he walked away.

The fight itself was actually evenly matched. Vitali got the better of the opening round then Lewis changed his game in the third and gradually got the better of things as the rounds progressed until the 6th when he was clearly getting the better of things and landing the more telling shots. It was a tough fight which took a lot out of both men and I dont believe either had much more to give after the 6th - Lewis may have been worn out but Vitali wasn't really getting much power behind his punches any more, certainly not with the regularity he had earlier in the fight.
