In my opinion Wilder is all wrong for Fury, whichever version steps into the ring, and certainly when he's closer to current shape as he is to Wlad fight shape (which people forget might or might not have been due to medication assistance at the time). Fury is bound to get hit by a wild swing in that fight, and Wilder's right is quite a bit different as Pajkic' or USS' punches. Don't know if the fight actually happens, but if it does then I expect Wilder to win by come from behind KO.
Very nice but a few things I disagree with. 1) Wilder's big advantage in power is more apparent than real. The guy takes 8-10 rounds to stop guys like Molina, Szpilka and Duhapuas who have been stopped much more quickly by others, and famously could not stop Stiverne in the first fight, despite the fact that he came in morbidly obese. Wilder backers try to say if it because he is crude and needs time to find the punch, but we are talking about his performances being bested by the Ashanti Jordans and Demetrice King's of the division. Fury, to his credit, has stoppage wins over very durable guys like Chisora and Hammer. I am not sold that Wilder is really THAT much more powerful. Maybe Fury gets a "B" and Wilder a very low "A-" or high "B+" 2) I also think Fury has been playing possum a bit with the weight, which is why it is coming off so easily. The guy is 6'9"...not 6'3" or 6'6", but 6'9". How much is 100 pounds to gain and lose to him, really? If Fury looks good against Pianeta, and by looking good, I don't mean quick knock-out, but putting some rounds in and demonstrating stamina, I would give Wilder no chance whatsoever. Fury is a slick, ambidextrous boxer. Wilder looks crude and struggling against school teachers, pasty chefs, crusierweight soccer hooligans, and a guy who wast only medically cleared to fight the night before the fight. Oh, which brings me to my last point... 3) Ortiz was only medically cleared to fight the night before the fight due to high blood pressure. It is not the great, gutty victory it is being sold as...the man should probably not be fighting at all at this point in his life. In any event, if the fight comes off, props to both for taking the risk, but pending the Pianeta result, my money is on Fury for every round.
I think you are overestimating Fury and underestimating Povetkin. If they met right now my money would be on Povetkin.
If Wilder vs Fury gets made for december, it will be very close to Christmas and if it is marketed correctly, it can be a very big fight.
Fight won't happen this year. He'll want a few more stiffs before taking this on. Wilder I'm talking about here not Fury.
I've always believed Povetkin was on the overrated side by the majority of observers. If they fought now, I'd still pick Fury, but with some reservations.
The idea of a fight of this magnitude in December is definitely fired-up! I can't remember the last time we had a high profile match like this happen in December.
I think you hit on a few things that pose serious problems for Fury. Conditioning for Fury is critical to fight his style of fighting. Even in peak condition I don't think he matches Wilder's conditioning. Fury also feasts on timing and avoidance. Traditional fighters have trouble with his run and gun show. Wilder is anything but traditional. He is more athletic than Fury. He's highly unpredictable and extremely awkward. He's also dangerous inside. And Fury's reach advantage will be minimized by Wilder's comparable reach. Fury was very, very, fat in his last fight. He has a long way to go to get into optimum shape. Don't be surprised if Fury plays the delay game with this fight. He seems to like to play that card.
After the Seferi fight Warren said Fury was about 5-6 fights away before he is ready to face the top heavyweights. Now he is expected to get in the ring with Wilder in five months time
Great video! In Russian, the word "Povetkin" is pronounced the same way everyone (except you) pronounces it in English. The letter "e" is pronounced "ye" only if it's the first letter of the word. For example, the name "Evgeny" is pronounced "Yevgeny" (and in English, it should also be spelled with a Y). Just like "Povetkin", the word "America" is pronounced the same in English and Russian. If you want to put the "ye" sound in the middle, it should so slight that you hardly hear it. The way you say it, it sounds like his middle name is Povy. Like Alexander Povy Etkin. It sounds really weird. If you want to pronounce Russian names correctly, the name Vladimir in Russian is pronounced with the stress on the second syllable, not the first. That's the Russian president too - not just a boxer But you're actually better off pronouncing foreign names the American way, otherwise you're bound to get some right and some wrong. One pundit awkwardly goes out of his way to pronounce Malignaggi as in Italian, when Malignaggi himself pronounces it the American way.
In fairness, I didn't pull that out of thin air. I've heard other commentators, specifically Lampley, pronounce it that way. Or at least that's how I heard it, but perhaps we have a "Private Parts" WNBC thing going on here. I also THOUGHT (and could be mistaken) that I once heard @CST80 pronounce it that way - but even if I am mistaken, as I once told him, I wish every boxer had a name like "Joe Smith Jr". I was clueless on pronunciations for so many names in my ranking experiment - and that's even true of some guys I've seen fight numerous times. So he was very helpful, as I ran many names by him, even when I had some idea of how it should sound. Pronunciation is not my strong suit, but I appreciate the suggestions/overview.
You did very well with Usyk, though! Whose last name should be pronounced "Oo"syk (and not "You"syk as many others do).
