Well Rummy- I think this opened my eyes on one thing that Usyk while he did climb the ladder appears to have left shark infested water at HW. The gap between Joshua and he was almost insulting. I don't really think a jump from Cruiser to HW is a special thing. To me the class divide should not exist and the venture upwards not being consistently undertook can largely be pinned to dread of a "Weight jump" in my opinion. I believe him leaving Cruiser is a step DOWN in class much better boxers can be found down stairs and I am really proud of the CWs today some real talent there.
Joshua is an on top fighter. Problem with that style is how ordinary they look when they are not on top of their opponent. They sure look terrific when they are on top though. Matchmaking is a big ingredient for that style to prosper long term. A big big question I have with AJ is the attrition factor. Simply put, I do not think he is good in the wear and tear department and will deteriorate significantly after tough bouts. some heavies can take beatings and not suffer so much---this guy, to me anyway, is not that type.
Good stuff as usual Rummy! Uysk is definitely the goods and a fighter that will be remembered well after we are all gone. Regarding the DAZN camera work, I definitely agree and have noticed how **** poor it is at times.
Interesting take. Not sure I agree, but even if I did - hard to blame him (and so many other cruiserweights who tested their luck north) when the money and glory is in the unlimited weight class.
I've been wanting to complain about this for ages, but never wanted to take away from the fights themselves. But going forward, I'll be less shy about calling it out when this happens. Even worse were the two Whye-Povetkin bouts. Hardly a display of lightning speed in that one, and yet the cameras were still losing the frame. (Someone pointed out to me that these are likely Sky cameramen, and DAZN is just contracting the feed, but even still - the camerawork is rather shoddy on the whole).
I think his best hope against Usyk is to use his strength and weight advantage, since he never really used it at all. But even if he loses the rematch, I think he's going to be one of the top heavyweights for a while yet. Edit: As well in terms if footwork, I think he should focus on pressing forward, and cutting the ring off. His other option would be focusing on keeping him at the end if the jab, but I think that's much less likely to work. Certainly he can't just let Usyk do his thing like he did in their first fight.
Joshua's not as good as a lot of people thought, he's also not as bad as a lot of people think. I personally think he's overachieved considering his talent level & his records not as bad as some would have us believe. As for Usyk I think it's great for boxing to have a potential ATG as Heavyweight champ, & we know he won't take the easy fights because he never has.
Great video yet again Rummy. To nitpick i don't think "the great Anthony Joshua" fit very well. As usual tho top notch viewing.
