Oh I agree Fury looked awful. And did terrible damage to his reputation. He clearly didn’t take the fight seriously, he looked flabby even more so than his usual fights and he had no plan b, which he usually does as he is a high IQ fighter. Still something seemed fishy to me and with a huge unification fight signed before this bout I wonder if it was on the level. Hell maybe he told Ngannou do what you want because he was so confident that he would win. That knockdown was legit and Fury looked stunned but the was such a dull waltz outside of that I’m not 100 percent sure something wasn’t cooked up behind the scenes in advance.

If it was one thing that was easy to predict then it was that N'Gannou would excel in clinches. He's much stronger than anyone Fury has ever faced, and much stronger than Fury, and experienced in that kind of fighting from MMA.

So that Fury tried that as much as he did just seemed to speak of desperation more than anything else. That was playing to N'Gannou's strengths.

I thought for sure that even a Fury who had trained like he was halfway through camp, which he clearly had, easily would pick N'Gannou apart from the outside, and it schocked me that he couldn't.

Fury looked awful, and he was awful. Ngannou may have been better than advertised but that still doesn’t change the fact he’s an 0-0 novice with no boxing experience. Fury was embarrassing and his reputation took a heavy hit. Plus I’ve heard the PPV numbers were poor as well. He’s wasted a year oh his career fighting nobodies when instead he could have fought for undisputed.

There can be no more excuses made for Tyson Fury.

There was a guy on another thread who posted about 8 different comments about how it was obviously fixed, how he'd been watching for years and never seen a blatant fix like that. Never explained it though.

Likewise, you say it seemed fishy. What seemed fishy? Everyone I've seen who has said it looks fishy has actually never explained why it looks fishy.

Mainly just Fury’s lack of urgency in the last two rounds. I was in the audience when he fought Cunningham and after he got dropped he went into another gear. Now I recognize Ngannou is much bigger man so Fury would have to be more cautious. But the last couple of rounds was total cruise control. Like let’s just not get injured. And with the crowd and Usyk in the audience and the deal already signed I suspect maybe it was always gonna go to Fury once it got to the cards. Ngannou also didn’t press his advantage when he dropped Fury but I do understand that having never boxed like this he was cautious not to burn out.

Yeah, that's the silver lining. That one of the most greedy and cowardly acts in boxing history came back to bite him in the ass.

Doesn't nearly make up for the black eye this is for boxing, but it's at least something.

I feel like you've just answered your own question your reply haha. Fury didn't press because he knew he wasn't going to win and didn't want to risk anything fighting Usyk, Ngannou didn't wanna gas out. They both fought intelligently for their goals.

I can give Fury the benefit of the doubt, for now, and put this down to an absence of mental focus - while keeping an open mind on whether or not he's sliding (and fast).

All should be revealed in Fury/Usyk.

I'd like to see a rematch with Ngannou at some point too - and, subject to his performance in a Usyk bout, I could be tempted to stack heavily on Fury.

Obviously Ngannou has done well. But also, just as obviously, there's been a bit of a Halo Effect caused by his relative and unexpected success.

My guess is, if Fury isn't hurtling towards the knacker's yard, and can still reclaim a large part of his physical sharpness, he mugs Ngannou in the rematch.

Otherwise, there could be a rough time ahead for Fury fans.
